Who’s working while you’re asleep?

Police officers

Some police officers answer calls every night at the station. Others go around the town and city on foot or in cars. 因为他们辛勤工作，你才能安然入睡。

Firefighters

Even at night, firefighters are ready to help. Whenever they get a call, they will go at once to fight fires and help people.

Doctors

If you get sick or hurt at night, doctors can take care of you at the hospital. The doctor will examine you, give you medicine and even do an operation on you.

Bakers

You may never think that bakers often start the day while you are still asleep. They prepare all the things they need for the day and then start working. Bakers want their bread and cakes to be fresh and delicious every day.

In fact, many other people work at night. Let’s thank them for everything they do for us.

Like many other young boys, I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I was a middle school student. My mother advised me to be a pianist. However, I could not stand spending all of my time in front of a piano. My father wanted me to be a teacher like him, but it seemed that I was not interested in it.

I had my own goal (目标) after I went to high school. I got a part-time (兼职的) job at the school radio station and I found it interesting. I liked to discuss school life and my favorite music with my classmates on the radio. I kept on doing this job during the nexts even years. When I left the college, I got a full-time job at our local (当地的) radio station. My career (职业生涯) started. My program is successful and I have lots of fans. I enjoy my job and my life now.

Anna

I work in a bank (银行) from Monday to Friday. My house is near a park and is about ten kilometers from my office. I usually go to work by train. Every morning I get up at 6:30 and take the train at 7:00. It usually takes me about thirty minutes to get to my office. The train is quick and cheap. I am never late for work.

Joe

I am a student. My house is near a lake. My school is across from (在……对面) the lake. I can walk across a bridge to school. It takes me about thirty minutes. But I often go to school by boat, because it is more fun. It takes me about twenty minutes.

Nancy

I’m a waitress (服务员). I work in a restaurant from Monday to Saturday. I often go to work by bus. It is about five kilometers from my house to the restaurant. It takes me about twenty-five minutes to go to work. Sometimes I am late for work ①         the traffic (交通) is very busy.
