Different countries have different customs. There are also some special customs in India. Piplantri is a village in Rajasthan, India. People there plant 111 trees to celebrate the birth of a girl. In Indian culture, the number 111 is a lucky number which can bring success.

Historically, the birth of a girl was considered a symbol of bad luck in lots of Indian villages. As a result, people in the country usually value boys more than girls. That’s why the project of the village is regarded as a great achievement.

According to the record, the custom was first started by the village’s former leader, Shyam Sundar Paliwal. He started the event to commemorate the death of his daughter, Kiran.

While a girl’s parents plant the trees, the village will open a fixed deposit account(定期存款账户) for the girl. But that’s not all. The parents have to take good care of those trees. They also need to promise that their daughter will receive a proper education and won’t get married until she reaches the age of 18.

By practicing this tradition, the villagers have planted more than 300,000 trees during the past years.

Taking selfies (自拍) is popular with different ages of people nowadays around the world. There are many things to consider while taking selfies, such as lighting, settings and so on. Sometimes, we may add a second character—a wild animal. However, trying to get too close to wildlife for a photo may cause many problems.

The selfie might harm the animal. For example, when sea turtles come up on the beach to rest or nesting (筑巢), it’s always a big attraction for tourists to take photos. The action of selfie may drive them away from the beach, which can possibly make them easier to be attacked or reduce their chance of nesting success. So harm can be caused even without touching the animal.

The selfie might make people get hurt. Even if the animal seems calm and friendly, there is a chance that you will end up in the hospital. Some people think Yellowstone’s famous bison are just big-shouldered cows. Wrong! They are wild animals! In 2015, a 16-year-old tourist was knocked over by a bison as she tried to take a selfie with it.

The selfie might raise moral (道德) problems, too. When you pay to take photos or swim with dolphins, you can get an amazing experience. In fact, the dolphins may be trained many times by cruel methods for this. It also causes the dolphins to lose much needed rest.

     The selfie might cause legal (法律的) trouble. When you post your selfie photos or videos with wildlife online, you might get into trouble with the law. That’s because you are breaking laws on protecting wildlife and endangered animals.

     So, next time when you want to take selfies with wildlife, think twice!

Guyu is the last solar term (节气) in spring. When it is coming, it means the cold weather has basically ended, and the temperature rises faster. Besides, the amount of rainfall increases much than the day of “Rain Water”, which is very important for the growth of the crops. After this day, the cuckoo starts to sing, trees and grass turn green.

Picking tea is a custom in Guyu in the south of China. It’s said that drinking tea in Guyu will help people clear away heat, drive away evil spirits and improve eyesight. In the north of China, people eat Chinese toon (香椿) as a custom in Guyu. Guyu is also a perfect time or fishing. Fishermen often hold sacrifice ceremony (祭祀活动) for the sea to bless for safety and success on the sea. In some of the northwest areas, people take a shower in the water to be far away from the bad luck during Guyu period.

While we are busy with our outdoor activities in spring, more care is needed to deal with health. The clearest weather feature around Guyu is the big differences between morning temperatures and night temperatures. People should also pay attention to some health problems like catching a cold and so on.
