Have you heard of “soft skills” before? To be honest, they’re abilities that are not taught in school. However, to be truly happy and successful, you need to develop soft skills. Here are some of them.

Understand the power of non-language communication. If you have watched a nature program, you’ve probably seen how some animals communicate. For example, a wolf can control its young just by using a different look in its eyes. While humans have the ability to speak, about 55% of our face-to-face communication actually takes place through body language.

Know how to make others laugh. I’m sure with your friends and family you have a great sense of humor. However, how about at work or when you meet strangers? Break free, and add humor to your actions. Then your personal happiness will rise.

Respect others. Unfortunately, this soft skill seems to be going out of fashion at present. Too many people have become self-centered, and put their own hopes above the needs of other people. Please make sure you respect all those you come into contact with. Interestingly, by respecting others, you’ll find they respect you more in return.

Have persuasive(令人信服的) power. This isn’t some kind of superheroes’ power. It’s an ability that many people have developed. If you learn to communicate persuasively, you will go far.

Today, it’s normal for people to know about others, opinions and argue with them on social media (社交媒体) by using phones and computers. This kind of situation is getting more and more common in people’s life.

When some people see an idea that they disagree with, they would like to reply to it at once even without looking up more information about the idea. Most of the time, they may only use the facts they know to write their replies, believing what they write is true. Then they click (点击) “post” and think they win the argument. For this kind of people, they have the name “keyboard man (键盘侠)”.

Most people don’t like it when other people disagree with their ideas and talk about them on the Internet. They think they are right. The more replies they get, the angrier they may be. When they get into these kinds of fights day and night, they are slowly changed.

They may not know how different they will become at first, but they feel terrible after arguing. If they argue often, they may start to enjoy arguing and then end up doing it even more. It’s a dangerous cycle (循环).

But what can they do about the arguments? The best way is to get away from those arguments because they are unnecessary and even useless. And there are much better and more interesting things to do, whether on the Internet or in real life.
