In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic (流行病), schools around the world are trying to make students’ stay at school as safe as possible. Here are some examples.

The UK

In England, students had to take COVID-19 tests twice in the first week this term. In school year, they need to do COVID-19 self-tests twice a week at home. The UK is also planning to vaccinate (接种疫苗) the students under the age of 16 to make students safer in school.   

Switzerland

Schools in Switzerland have strict rules to keep students safe. For example, fresh air must keep coming in and out of the classroom. High school students must wear masks (口罩) unless they sit far enough from each other.

Israel

With masks on their faces, over 2.5 million students in Israel went back to school in September this term. In school year, students and teachers should take COVID-19 tests once or twice a week. If the vaccination rate (疫苗接种率) in a class is less than 70 percent, students will take online classes at home.

Mr. Smith works in an office. He’s very busy and has no time to have a good rest. Every evening, when he comes back from his office, he’s always tired and wants to go to bed early. But his wife often has a lot of interesting things to tell him after supper. She doesn’t stop talking until she falls asleep.

One day the man felt terrible and couldn’t go to work. He decided to go to see a doctor. And Mrs Smith went to the hospital with him. Before her husband said what was the matter with him, the woman had told the doctor all and the man understood why. He gave them some pills (药片) and said to the woman, “the pills are for you.”

“For me?” the woman said in surprise, “I’m fine. I don’t need any pills!”

“I don’t think so, madam”, said the doctor. “They are sleeping pills. Your husband will soon be all right if you take them.”
