The 19th Asian Games were held in Hangzhou and five other cities in Zhejiang Province. As the main host city, Hangzhou surprised the world during the Games. Now let’s look at two venues (场馆) for the Games.

One of the main venues is Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center. The opening and closing ceremonies of the Hangzhou Asian Games were held here. The venue is located on the south bank of Qiantang River. It is widely known as the Big Lotus, because it looks like a lotus flower (莲花) from the outside.

The Big Lotus is made up of 28 big lotus “petals (花瓣)” and 27 small lotus “petals”. The “petals” show different colors at night. They can give people different feelings in different seasons when light shines. The Big Lotus can hold 80,000 people at a time. The seats are in five different colors and all of them are placed properly, so people can have the best match-watching experience.

Not far from the Big Lotus is the Tennis Center of Hangzhou Olympics Sports Center. Like its neighbor, it’s also in the shape of a lotus flower, so it is called the Little Lotus. Unlike the Big Lotus, the venue resembles a blooming (盛开的) lotus flower. Today both the Big Lotus and the Little Lotus have become new landmarks of Hangzhou. Do you know anything about the Asian Games. It happens once every four years. And it is a big game for the Asian countries. The Asian Games was set up to promote (促进) sports cooperation (合作), friendship and cultural exchange (文化交流) among Asian countries.

The 19th Asian Games is held in Hangzhou, from September 23rd to October 8th 2023. Hangzhou is a beautiful city in eastern China. It is home to many famous landmarks (地标) like West Lake. And a UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most beautiful places in China.

The 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games shows the best of Asian sports talent and sportsmanship, with over 10, 000 players from 45 countries taking part in 40 different sports.
