Have you ever watched your dog bury（埋）his favorite bone but dig it up only a day or two later? There is actually a reason behind this — it’s simply in their nature. For thousands of years, dogs have buried their bones. When dogs lived in the wild, sometimes there was not enough food, it was hard for them to find food. If they were able to find meat and bones, dogs had to protect them. In order to keep other dogs and animals from finding their meat, dogs would bury it in the ground. Even though most dogs have lots of food to eat today, their instincts（本能）still tell them to bury their bones. Some dogs even hide（藏）more than one bone at a time.

A dog cannot bury a bone just anywhere. He must first find the perfect place. Often it’s near a tree or a large rock. Once the dog finds the perfect place, he uses his front feet to dig the hole, drops the bone and covers up the hole to protect it. Dogs don’t always remember where a bone is buried, but they have a wonderful sense of smell. A dog can smell a bone even if it has been buried for years. Most of the time, dogs find bones they have buried by themselves, but they can also find bones buried by other dogs.

Do you know that dogs like going to school, too? In the US, there’s a nice “school” for dogs. Its name is Doggie School Bus Inc.

Arat Montoya is the owner (主人) of Doggie School Bus Inc. He’s from Mexico. His father wants him to be a good baker (烘焙师) like him, but Arat doesn’t want to. He says to his father, “Dad, I love dogs and I want to do something for dogs.”

Every morning, Arat goes to the dogs’ owners to pick up (接走) dogs by Doggie School Bus. He knows all the names of the dogs. The dogs are happy every time they see him. After Arat takes them to their school, the dogs have a good time playing with Arat and each other. School finishes at 2:00 in the afternoon. Then, Arat takes the dogs back to their owners on the yellow Doggie School Bus.

Arat loves what he does. He thinks it’s fun to do that for dogs.

Οnce upon a time, there lived a kind-hearted king. He was kind to everyone, even to birds and animals. He never harmed any animals. He did not kill them even for meat. One day, a businessman gave two beautiful birds to the king as gifts. One is red, and the other is white. The king ordered some workmen to make a comfortable cage (笼子) for them and asked a trainer to take good care of them.

One day, the king came to see the two birds. The trainer told him that the red bird flew very high and quickly, but the white bird just sat in the cage and didn’t move even a step. The trainer also said that the white bird was in excellent condition and he tried everything he could but still failed to make it move. Soon, the king announced (宣布) that he needed someone to make the white bird move and fly. The one who would manage to do it could get some gold from the king. Then a lot of people came to have a try, but nobody succeeded.

A few weeks later, an old man reached the king’s palace and said to him, “My dear king, I promise that I can make the white bird fly like the red one.” The king allowed the old man to train the white bird.

The next day, the king went to see the birds again. He was very surprised to see the white bird fly fast like the first one to great heights.

“How did you make the white bird fly?” the king asked excitedly.

“I just took away the cage that the white bird felt comfortable to sit in.” the old man simply replied.
