I am a student majoring in (主修) museum studies at the University of Oklahoma. I’ve dreamed of being an artist since I was a little girl. These days, when I’m thinking about why art plays an important role in my life, I find that my love for it comes from my trips to museums.
When I was six, my mother died. After that, my grandmother spent lots of time with me. Although that was a very sad time in my life, seeing her always filled me with excitement and pleasure. We did many relaxing activities, but my favourite was our trips to the local museums. We were both interested in the stories behind the collections. By visiting museums, she wanted to pass on her love for art to me—and she did it.
Since I was a child, I have loved collecting things: erasers, stones, pens... I not only collect things, but also create systems to organize (整理) them. The study at university also teaches me how to maintain (保养) collections. These are good for my work in the museum.
Like my grandmother, I want to share my love for art and collections with others. Museums are so much more than their collections. They are places where people can spend time together. Visit your local museums and you may be surprised at how much you can get out of it.
