As we all know, dolphins are very smart.

Dolphins are usually in groups. A group of dolphins near the beach usually has about 10 members. Far away from the beach, groups can be much larger, maybe about hundreds of members. The members in a group are very friendly. They play with each other, talk to each other and help each other. Dolphins often work together to fight against other animals, and find food.

Scientists are watching dolphins in the Moreton Bay. Ina has studied a group of dolphins for many years. She said, “When the dolphins live on natural food, I think it’s more important for them to get on with others, or to learn from others, or to work with others to get food.”

It’s true that these friendly dolphins will go on to teach the scientists their living ways, as they live in the clear waters of Moreton Bay.

Animals

The elephant lives in Africa(非洲) and in Asia. This elephant lives in Africa. It eats plants (植物), leaves (叶子), bamboo and a little fruit, but it doesn’t eat meat. It likes water.

There are only about 1,800 pandas in China and about 200 of them live in zoos. The panda eats about 30 kilos of bamboo a day, as well as plants and leaves. This black and white animal is the favourite of people all over the world.

The zebra (斑马) is an African animal. Like the panda, ___▲___. It eats plants and leaves, as well as grass, but the zebra doesn’t eat bamboo.

The tiger lives in Asia. It’s a very big animal and usually lives alone (独自). It likes water and is good at swimming (游泳). It’s strong and catches (抓住) many kinds of animals for food.

Monkeys live in Africa, Asia and America. There are about 200 kinds of monkeys. Monkeys eat meat, leaves, fruit and even eggs!

How much is a plane ticket(票) back to your country and a new home? $100,000? $200,000? Answer — $14,000,000, if you are a killer whale(虎鲸).

Keiko is a killer whale, film star in the film Free Willy in 1993. Now it’s time for Keiko to go back to the open seas, after 20 years in zoos.

In the film Free Willy, two men want to kill the whale in a Japanese zoo, because they want to sell it for money. But a young boy helps the whale to run away.

At the beginning of the film, Keiko was in a zoo in Mexico(墨西哥), and wasn’t at all happy. The tank(水槽) was too small and the water was too warm.

In 1996 Keiko moved to a better zoo in Oregon, USA. The zoo-keeper built a very large water tank for him. Many young people and their families went to the zoo to visit him.

In 1998, people took Keiko to Iceland(冰岛) by air. It wasn’t an easy trip. Keiko is heavy, about 4.5 tons. What will happen now? For some months Keiko will stay in the sea. It must learn to catch fish and get strong. It must also learn to keep away from boats.

Maybe in a year or two, if all goes well, people will open the gates and Keiko will be free, really free.
