Baseball is very popular in America now, and it has a long history. Its history can date back to (追溯到) 1744, in a children’s book A Little Pretty Pocket-Book in the UK. There was a game called baseball. Later on, people got to know much other early information about baseball game.

In 1749, Frederick Louis, Prince of Wales, played “Baseball” in English. Then some students began to play with balls ruled by Princeton College in 1787. And a baseball club came into being in 1825.

The Boy’s Own Book (1828) told the rules to today’s game of baseball. People should play the baseball on a diamond-shaped infield (菱形的内场). When a player hit (击) the ball through or over the infield, he could run. If the ball hit somewhere else, which was against the rule, he could not run. Three missed batting (击球) meant the player lost the game.

In The Book of Sports (1834) by Robin Carver, he brought the baseball to the Americans for the first time. And now, the baseball is very popular all over the world. Many people like playing it for fun. It’s also a way to keep healthy.

We’ve all been there. You’re working on a big project that needs to be finished by the end of the day, and somebody interrupts (打断) you to stop your work for a short period of time. For example, they show you photos of their vacation, or they tell you about their weekend. While those interruptions can be annoying, new research from the University of Cincinnati says that they could have some real benefits as well.

Researchers surveyed 111 people twice a day for three weeks, asking them questions about their experiences at the office that day. The survey asked them if they had been interrupted at work, how mentally tired they were, and how satisfied they were with their job.

The study found that while interruptions can have a negative influence on a worker’s productivity (效率), the social aspect of stopping work to talk to a coworker can help them feel more like they belong. That is to say, they feel comfortable or welcome in the situation or place.

The lead study author Harshad Puranik said that this feeling of belonging in the workplace can increase a worker’s job satisfaction, which is a feeling of happiness because one’s wants or needs have been met, even if the work itself is being negatively affected by the interruption.

If you still don’t want to be interrupted at work, there are some things you can do. For example, you can get to the office before anybody else arrives, so you have time to work alone, turn your phone off, or just tell people that you are too busy to talk.

Not all tomatoes are red. They can be yellow, orange, pink, or white. All tomatoes are green before they are ready to be picked. Then the tomatoes turn their true color. That’s when they’re ready to eat!

Tomatoes first grew in the Americas. The Incas grew them over 1,000 years ago. They were introduced to Europe by the Spanish in the early 16th century. Many people there thought tomatoes would make them sick. It was years before some of them would eat tomatoes.

Tomatoes are fruits. They grow from seeds. They won’t grow in cold weather. But with water, sunlight and warmth, tomatoes grow fast. They can grow in pots or in the ground. As the plant grows taller, people may tie it to a stick. Next is the blooming stage. Flowers appear. The flowers turn into fruit. Some kinds of tomatoes can be picked in about six more weeks. Some tomatoes are large. One kind of tomato can weigh as much as two pounds.

You can eat raw tomatoes. First, wash them. Then, cut them up for salads or sandwiches. Tomatoes can be cooked, too. They can be grilled, boiled, or even fried. Do you use ketchup? Height (身高) is just one of the thousands of features (特征) that your genes (基因) decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you a height that usually lands somewhere between the height of each parent. If both your parents are tall, then maybe you will be tall, too, but if you have questions about how tall you’re going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find it out.

But genes don’t decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can keep you from growing to your full potential(潜力). Getting enough sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the right height.

Maybe you’re wondering how fast you should grow. There’s no right answer. Kids grow about 2 inches(5 centimeters) a year between age 3 and the time they start puberty.

Your doctor will know how your growth (生长) has been going over the years. Two centimeters here and 2 inches there are not nearly as important as the height you’re at now, how you’ve been growing up to this point, and what other changes your body may be going through.

Don’t be worried if you have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a very quick growth during puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 for girls and about 11 for boys. But it can be earlier or later—between 7 and 13 for girls, 9 and 15 for boys.

You usually begin to find that you’re growing faster about a year after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.
