Hello, everyone! I’m Linda from No.1 Middle School. I often hear some students say English is difficult, and it gives them a headache. So they can’t learn it well. But English is very easy for me. I’m good at it. I’m very glad to tell you something about how I study English.

First, I think an interest in English is very important. When I was in Grade Three, we had a new subject—English. It was fresh to me. I was interested in it, so I worked hard at it. Soon we had an English exam and I got a very good mark. How happy I was! Since then, I have been learning English harder and harder. Our English teacher often taught us English songs, and the songs sounded nice. I often think how interesting English is!

Second, English is a foreign language. I should learn it well in the following ways: listen to the teacher carefully, speak bravely, read aloud and have a good vocabulary. Then practice again and again, never be tired. And I also have a good habit: whenever I have a question, I must make it clear (42) ________ our English teacher for help. How happy I am when I understand it!

(43) Besides, I often read English stories, jokes and easy novels. From these I know English is not only interesting, but also useful. They help me understand a lot of things. So to do more reading is an important way to learn English well.

And I also do some exercises from our workbooks, and I often keep English diaries. English has become a close friend of mine.

Now I have learned English for more than five years. I am always the first in our class. At last, I hope every student can learn English well.

The Reasons of Learning English

Today lots of people in China can speak English and more and more people are learning this language. Then what do they learn English for? We have done a survey and here are some people’s reasons:

Alice White: I like traveling by myself very much. I’ve been to many places in China, and I plan to travel to some foreign countries. English is the most widely used language in the world, so learning English will do great help to my trips.

Mark Smith: I’m actually not so interested in English. I like Chinese more. However, I have to learn English. We have to take English exams and the score of English takes a large part in the total score. Luckily, I’m not doing too badly in it, or I’ll have to struggle with it.

Ben Green: It is necessary to learn English. As you know, the competition in the job market is very fierce(激烈的). If I have a good knowledge of English, I will have a chance of getting a good job.

Kate Lu: It’s interesting, isn’t it? I can get information that others can’t get. I can talk and write letters to interesting people that others can’t communicate with. And I can always make people surprised by speaking good English.

I have some problems, and I need your help. I’ll have a very important English test soon, but I can’t remember the words well, and I always have trouble learning English grammar. I’m not good at reading, and I’m afraid of speaking with others in English.

I’m so upset. What should I do? Would you give me some advice?
