People drink tea. There are many kinds of tea, such as black tea, green tea, white tea and yellow tea. People drink a lot of tea in China. Some people drink it because they think it makes them healthy. Many people drink it because it tastes very good. It is delicious.

People drink a lot of tea in Japan. People drink a lot of green tea in South Korea, too. In Vietnam, people like to drink coffee first. Then they drink tea.

People drink a lot of tea in England. Every afternoon, people drink tea. It’s “tea time”. English people like to drink their tea with milk in it.

Many people drink black tea in the US. In the South, people like to drink sweet tea. Sweet tea is cold black tea with sugar in it. Most tea comes from China. Some tea comes from India or Sri Lanka. Kenya, Japan and Indonesia also grow tea.

New Year’s Day is a traditional (传统的) festival in the world. On this day, people in different countries eat different food.

In the USA, people eat herrings (鲱鱼). Americans like herrings because herrings always swim fast together in the water. They are the symbol of happiness and richness for a family.

In Spain, families like to get together, listen to music and play games. And when it is twelve o’clock at night and the New Year begins, people will eat twelve grapes. They think the grapes can bring good luck in the next twelve months.

As we all know, dumplings are the best food for Chinese. They mean tuanyuan. And many families make one or two dumplings with coins (硬币) inside. People who eat dumplings with coins will get happiness.

Different people eat different food on New Year’s Day, but they all want health and happiness.

Nowadays, vegetarian food is very popular in restaurants around the world and many people are vegetarians(素食者). Are you one?

About 70% of the world’s vegetarians live in India, and about 30% of its population is vegetarians. A lot of these people are Hindus(印度教徒), so religion(宗教) is an important reason why they eat vegetarian food.

Other people eat vegetarian food to help protect the animals. We eat a lot of meat, and to make the space produce it, we need to cut down trees and plants, and that’s bad for the environment. Also, to produce one kilo of meat, an animal needs eight kilos of vegetarian food. It’s better for the environment if we don’t eat meat.

Also, some people think it is wrong to eat animals. The more meat we eat, the more animals will die. When the buying stops, the killing can stop, too. Luckily, many people prefer eating vegetarian food, they think it’s much healthier.

For all these reasons, vegetarian food has a better future. Between 3% and 7% of people in the UK are vegetarians, and 86% of its population eats vegetarian food one or two days a week. In Brazil, the number of vegetarians is between 5% and 10%. And Ghent City in Belgium is Vegetarian Capital of the world. It has a vegetarian day. Every Thursday, schools and public service offices serve vegetarian meals to children and adults of all ages.
