Recently, an online poll was held to choose the New Seven Wonders of the World. Over 100 million people voted. Here are four of the seven winners.

Chichen Itza, Mexico

This was an important city for the Mayans. It was built between about 700 CE and 1000 CE. A symbol of Mayan culture, it was a centre for business in things like cloth, honey and salt. Most photographs show a 24-metre high pyramid. It’s amazing for tourists to see it in person.

Christ the Redeemer statue, Brazil

Built between 1922 and 1931, the statue has become a well-known sight of Brazil. The statue is about thirty metres high and the arms measure 28 metres end to end. Designed by a Frenchman and built by a local artist, it attracts thousands of visitors every year.

The Colosseum, Italy

This famous amphitheatre, built between 70 CE and 80 CE, was used by the Romans for about 500 years for all kinds of public performances. Now it is almost a complete ruin, as a result of earthquakes and the passage of time, but some parts can be visited. The Colosseum has become one of the most famous buildings of Italy.

The Great Wall, China

This amazing structure was built over a period of more than two thousand years, ending in the 16th century. It was built in order to keep out the enemies of Mongolia on the other side. We have heard about people who have special memories. Recently there has been a report about a woman from Australia who can remember almost every detail(细节)of all the events in her daily life.

Rebecca Sharrock, 25, is one of just 80 people worldwide who have been identified(确定)as having Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory(HSAM, 超级自传体记忆症). It means she can remember every small event which most people would forget with in(在……以内)days as if it had happened just minutes ago.

“I remember my mum putting me in the driver’s seat of a car and taking a picture of me when I was 12 days old,” she said. “That’s my earliest memory. I remember every day since then. I can’t tell all the dates exactly because I was too young to understand calendars, but I remember what I did that every day, what the weather was like and so on.”

Rebecca can also re-experience taste. If she’s eating something that she doesn’t like, she thinks about Black Forest cake, her favorite food, and the memory will be so strong that she can nearly “taste” it.

However, sometimes her memories prove to be painful. Because they’re not just events that she remembers. “When I relive(再体验)memories, the feelings return, too,” Rebecca said. “For example, I remember falling over when I was three at my grandparents' house and hurting my left knee. Talking about it now, I feel painful in my left knee.”

“At night, I have to sleep with the radio recorder and a soft light on, she added.” If it’s too dark or quiet, my mind would be filled with all these memories and I can’t sleep.

Searching for parking spaces has long been a headache for many office workers in big cities across China, especially for those working in central business districts. Parking near their companies for five days a week could cost them a lot of money. At the same time, with prices for parking lots(停车场) in residential areas(居民区) rising, most of their spaces remain unoccupied(闲置的) during workdays.

Now a new form of sharing economy has appeared in China — the shared parking space. It has become a huge market in some Chinese big cities.

In Qingdao, up to 10,000 personal parking spaces have been turned into shared ones with the help of Airparking, an online shared parking platform(平台) developed by a network company from Guangzhou.

Through a special app, users can either share or order a parking place. Owners who have idle(空闲的) parking spaces can share some information, including the parking position, license number and time limit(限制) in the platform. With the information, users can easily find the nearest place to park. The average(平均) parking cost for shared parking is four yuan each hour, almost the same as the service fee(费) in traditional parking spaces.

Qingdao is one of the Chinese cities that encourage shared parking. Some other big cities, including Beijing, Shanghai and Hefei, have also begun to try this idea. The Shanghai government, for example, has set up more than 6,500 shared parking spaces to encourage the public to use. Shared parking will be more and more helpful to drivers.
