I LOVE SHANGHAI. I think I fell in love with the city even before I came here. In the Western mind, Shanghai 【小题1】 (think) of as both strange and beautiful. It was known as the “City of Adventurers” and the “Pearl of the East.” And when I arrived, I wasn’t disappointed. 【小题2】 western visitors can see, the city is really shining as a beautiful pearl(珍珠).

That was many years ago, but my love of Shanghai has not grown 【小题3】 (little); it has grown more. The city that interests me so much has never stopped improving and it is now ranked among the ten best cities in the world. And the Shanghai government hopes 【小题4】 (make) it the best city in the world by 2035. But what makes a city the “best”?

I don’t know 【小题5】 you agree with me or not. First of all, it has to have a good economy(经济) where young people can find good jobs. It also has to be a healthy place with a good environment. And, third, it has to be a place where people can relax and enjoy themselves. Most of all, a great city has to have great people.

On the north coast of Brazil, scientists once found something very strange—lost penguins, far from home! The scientists did not 【小题1】 (unknown) why the penguins were lost. Perhaps a warm current (水流) took them north. But penguins cannot live for long in the warmer waters of the north. It was time 【小题2】 (save) the penguins.
