On August 5, 2021, Chinese sportswoman Quan Hongchan became the youngest Chinese diver（跳水运动员）to win a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Quan was born on March 28, 2007 and grew up in the small village of Maihe, Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. She is the third among the five children in her family. Quan started diving at the age of 7 in Zhanjiang and joined the Guangdong provincial team in 2018. Quan has spent almost all her time on hard training. She had never been to a zoo or an amusement park before 2021.

When people asked her how to celebrate the success as an Olympic champion （冠军）, Quan said, “In many ways. My mom had a car accident four years ago. I wanted to make more money to help cure （治愈） her. My gold medal is the best gift for her. Now, the most important thing is to prepare for our National Games which will be held in September.”

Eric is an American boy. Now he is in China. Liu Na is Eric’s good friend. Today is Liu Na’s birthday. She has a birthday dinner at home, and she invites (邀 请) Eric to her house. Liu Na’s mother cooks Chinese food for them. The food is very tasty, and Eric likes it very much.

In America, Eric has hamburgers, potato chips, bread and salad for meals. After he comes to China, he knows about Chinese food and likes to eat it. Now he usually has porridge (粥) and eggs for breakfast, some vegetables, rice and chicken for lunch, and noodles and fruit for dinner. His favorite Chinese food is Jiaozi. He thinks it is really delicious. Eric doesn’t eat meat often. He doesn’t want to be fat.

Jane Brown works in a busy hospital(医院) in Boston, the USA. On weekdays, she usually gets up at six o’clock in the morning and has a shower. Then she goes to work at seven o’clock.

Her husband(丈夫), David, usually gets up at seven o’clock. He is a science teacher. They have one son. His name is Andy. Andy is thirteen. He goes to school at seven thirty in the morning with his father.

After Jane gets to the hospital, she talks to her patients and asks how they are. Then she meets the new patients. At about one o’clock in the afternoon she has lunch.

Usually Jane gets home at seven o’clock in the evening. She loves her job, because she likes helping people.
