Eleven young people from different countries sit around a meeting table, and have a discussion about the hottest topics these days. More amazingly, they do that all in Chinese. Isn’t that exciting? If you feel the same, you had better watch Hubei TV’s show Informal Talks.

First came out in April, 2015, the show is already in its seventh season. As one of the most popular TV programs, it gets a high score on the Internet.

Its producer（制作人）Yu Qing says when choosing the topics, they would first think about what interests the young people most.

Da Zuo, one host (主持人) of the show, says he always looks at the comments（评论）on the Internet to know people’s opinions on the show. To better take part in the talks, he also reads a lot of books about the histories of different foreign cultures or such famous books as A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking.

Brian Gonzalez, better known as Gong Biyang in China, has been a guest (嘉宾) of the show for the past seven years. To him, the beauty of the show is that everyone shares true stories that happened in their own lives.

The show is so interesting that it has a lot of online viewers（观众）. They join the discussion by sending danmu or short live comments when watching the show on Bilibili. Liu Bin, a computer programmer and a big fan of the show says, “It satisfies my curiosity（好奇）about different places in the world.” “In the past, I read lots of books to learn about the culture and history of other countries, but now I find a more lively way to learn about them —watching the show.”

Can red TV dramas (红色电视剧) make young people more interested in learning about China’s revolutionary (革命的) history? The answer is yes. Chinese TV drama Awakening Age (《觉醒年代》), which tells the story of how the Communist Party of China (CPC) was founded in 1921, ended several months ago, but it remains a hot topic on social media, where discussion shows that it has played a positive (积极的) role in educating young people about China’s revolutionary history.

The TV series celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC has won high praise (称赞) online. The stories of the young people in the drama — who gave everything, even their lives, to the revolution — have touched a large number of viewers (观众). The storytelling in the show has also been commended by viewers for successfully showing the depth of the CPC’s history and spirit, as well as the warmth of China and every family in the country.

Many audiences (观众) tried to find the background information about the drama and commented that they learned more about the history about the founding of the Party and the country. “I read many of Lu Xun’s novels such as A Madman’s Diary when I was a student, but I couldn’t understand why he wrote them or the angry feelings hiding in the characters. After watching the drama, I read these novels again and found that I could now understand what they wanted to express to readers,” said Li Lin, a 29-year-old viewer.

Some school teachers have been showing video clips (片段) from the series in classes to help students learn more about history. A junior high school teacher from Taiyuan, in North China’s Shanxi Province, said that some students told her after class that the show had left a strong impression on them.

Readers (《朗读者》) is a popular TV show in China. It invites (邀请) people to read aloud on the stage. The show also tells moving stories behind those people. They can read everything, like poems (诗), books, and letters. Many people are fans of the show. They begin to enjoy reading aloud at home.

Now, the show gives people a place to read. It is a reading pavilion (朗读亭). It showed up in cities like Shanghai, Hangzhou and Xian. Let’s have a look!

The pavilion is not very big. Only one person can come into it each time. There is a microphone (麦克风) in it and it records (记录) people’s voices. Everyone can read for three minutes in it. You can read anything you like. The show will pick some of the readers and invite them to read on TV.

Lots of people come to the pavilion to read. Yu Duohan is an 11-year-old girl from Shanghai. She read the story Take a Snail for a Walk. “I love reading aloud,” she said. “It makes the story become more beautiful.”
