In China, people’s living conditions in the cities have changed a lot in the ways of transportation（交通） in the past fifty years. A survey shows that the number of people riding a bike or walking is always decreasing. In 1974, more than 50% of people traveled to work on their own bikes, while by 2014, less than 20% of travelers preferred cycling or walking to work. Now the number becomes much smaller.

At the same time, there was a large increase in the use of cars. In 1974, very few people had a car. By 1994, about a quarter of travelers drove to work. This increased again, until 2014, about one third of travelers drove to work.

What has caused these changes? The main reason is that people’s living conditions have changed greatly. With the increasing number of people going by bus or car, fewer and fewer people would like to be cyclists or walkers.

As people enjoyed the convenience（便利）and speed of buses and cars, they are less likely to have patience and interest in cycling and walking. In the future, with the development of science and technology, more changes will happen in people’s everyday lives.

There will be a kind of new cars in the future. The car is as small as a bike. But it can carry two people in it. People will like this kind of small cars better than the big ones. Everybody can drive it easily， just like riding a bike. Even children and old people can drive them to schools or parks.

If everyone drives such cars in the future， there will be less pollution in the air. There will be more space for all the cars in cities， and there will also be more space for people to walk in the streets.

The little cars of the future will cost less money to buy and to drive. These little cars can go only 65 kilometers an hour， so driving will be safer. The cars of the future will be fine for going around the city but they will not be useful for a long trip.

This kind of cars can save a lot of gas（汽油）. They will go 450 kilometers， then they have to stop for more gas. They are nice cars， aren't they？
