Li Hao learns English by reading English newspapers and books. He enjoys singing English songs every day. And he goes to the cinema to see English films with his friends once a week.

Lei Hong thinks it’s important to listen carefully and takes notes in class. “We can learn a lot from the teacher in class,” she says. “And we also need to do some exercises after class.” She also writes down the mistakes in her notebook.

Cheng Hao practises speaking English by talking with English-speaking people. “If you want to improve your pronunciation, you can make friends with English-speaking people and talk with them. You can start a conversation with them by asking a question. Don’t be shy, just try,” Cheng Hao says. Sometimes, he writes emails to his foreign friends. It’s a good way to improve his writing.

Li Chen likes reading English stories. He writes English comments（评论）on the stories and put them on his blog（博客）. Some of his comments are excellent.

This helps practise your listening skills (技巧). You can also learn how people speak English in their everyday lives.

How to learn English well?

Learning a new language is always a challenge（挑战）. There are new words, new grammar, and new pronunciation. Language is an important part of culture. Knowing about the culture（文化）can make learning the language much more interesting.

I studied Chinese three years ago. At that time, I knew little about China. So, I started learning Chinese at a language school. It was important for me to learn about Chinese history and culture. Chinese culture is very different from that of my country’s and I became interested in it soon.

It will be useful to learn about culture when you study a new language. Culture can teach you so many things about a language. For example, it can tell you background（背景）information and the history of the language. I also found that by learning about the culture of a country, you will talk with local people more easily.

Whenever I try to learn a new language, I enjoy knowing about the culture behind it. It’s a challenge to learn more things. However, it is worthy（值得）of doing because it can help you a lot!
