In your spare time, do you help your parents with chores around the house? Can you cook for your family?

In order to stress（强调）the importance of hardworking spirit education among students of different ages, our country released（发布）a guideline in July, 2020. The guideline calls for students to respect labor work. Students should learn basic life skills and form good working habits through such education.

The government has been trying to stress the importance of hardworking spirit education. But this has been overlooked（忽视）in recent years. Many teenagers do not value the importance of working hard and aren’t interested in doing so. According to a study of 3, 000 students that was done by Ningbo Evening News in March, only 22% of students helped with everyday chores around the house.

“Families and schools play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard.” the guideline says.

As children’s first teachers, parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores at home. Students should master one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tidying their rooms.

Primary and middle schools must pay more attention to the hardworking spirit education so that the students can learn more about the labor work in school as well as at home.

China Three Gorges University held an activity named “Cell Phone Ninja” (手机忍者). They would like the students not to use cell phones for 21 days. It was really a challenge for most students.

The activity started on 12 April. Each student who volunteered to take part in this activity got a bracelet (手环) . If the students did not use their cell phones, there would be a photo on the screen of the bracelet to show that. If they used their cell phones, a different photo would appear on the screen of the bracelet. After the last class of each day, the students photos were shown on the school’s public WeChat.

About 900 students applied (申请) to take part in this test, and 400 were chosen. Seven days later, only 103 students remained. The test was set for 21 days because some scientists believe that 21 days is long enough to help form a habit.

According to the teachers in the university, the activity was not a competition. It depended on the students themselves to make the decision. To help students form better habits, the teachers hoped more activities like this one could be held.

With the development of the society, to learn well is not the only thing a student should do. To be a qualified(合格的) middle school student, I think we have a lot of things to do.

As for young kids, they may always have such a question: “When do I grow up? Yes! When does a child grow up? And how can a kid know he or she has grown up? These are interesting questions. As for us, fifteen-year-old, who are finishing middle school, we’re no longer younger children. We should know whether or not we have grown up. When we start to have a sense of offering a helping hand for a cleaner city and greener world, and when we have a loving heart to think more of others than of ourselves and are ready to help them, we can say that we have grown up.

Remember: If we help others, others will help us. If we do our best for nature, nature will offer its best to us in return!
