Xinhua -Thursday, November 3rd, 2022
On Monday, China launched Mengtian, the last part of its Tiangong Space Station. After a 13-hour trip, Mengtian got together with the space station on Tuesday morning. Mengtian was launched from Hainan Island by a large rocket, a Long March 5B.
Back to 2011, China wasn't allowed (允许) to use the International Space Station, so China worked hard to build its own space station, called Tiangong. Last year, the launching of the three parts of Tiangong began. The first and most important part was launched in April 2021. It has the energy and working centre as well as the living area for the scientists in space. Then, in July 2022, China launched a lab cabin (实验舱) called “Wentian”. This time, the new part, Mengtian is also made as a lab cabin with 8 rooms for experiments (实验).
With Mengtian, scientists can do experiments outside the station by operating a machine arm. They can learn more about space. One of the first things they will do on Mengtian is to test how plants grow in space.
At the moment, there are three scientists on the Tiangong. They’ll return to Earth in December. But they may work with three new scientists who will arrive later. Tiangong is now large enough for six people to live and work.
China’s space station will also work with the European space scientists on some experiments on the Mengtian. China says that one day, foreign scientists will also be able to visit Tiangong.

In the videos posted, we can see the robot preparing dishes on its own, from cutting vegetables to breaking eggs. It’s also good at watering plants, petting cats, cleaning the floor and washing clothes, even shaking the pillow (枕头).
Sounds good? Well, another video posted by researchers may disappoint some people. Mobile Aloha isn’t good at doing housework on its own.
Instead, it learns from human actions before doing each kind of housework. When the situation changes, it can’t work well without a human “teaching” it. So, it may break dishes, bump into things and even burn a pot.
The robot can successfully move chairs 80 percent of the time, said the team after they did more research on it. For cooking dishes, it’s only 40 percent. In short, it’s far from perfect.
In fact, AI robots are good at tasks such as math and playing chess, but they face challenges when it comes to simpler actions like cleaning. And it’s the same for Mobile Aloha. For example, if its body doesn’t move correctly even just with a small deviation (偏差), its arm may move too far to pick up a glass.
“Robots are not ready to take over the world,” the team posted online.

The new and publicly-available ChatGPT is a type of AI that has been “trained” by looking at over 8 million web pages. When asked a question, ChatGPT uses this training to produce detailed answers that often seem like they were written by a human. You can ask it anything and it will give you answers to not only follow-up questions but also professional questions (although it does sometimes make mistakes). You can also ask it to write text, such as short stories or essays. The technology is so promising (有前途的) that some people believe it will overtake (超过) Google in the near future.
For many years it has been expected that AI will become an important part of our lives, and for just as long there have been concerns (忧虑) of the trouble that AI could cause. In the 20th century, scientists, philosophers and writers sometimes worried that AI would become too powerful. In the short story I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, a giant supercomputer has killed every human on earth except five people it keeps to torture (折磨). And in the 1984 film The Terminator, a powerful AI called Skynet uses time travel to send a robot into the past to try and kill the mother of a brave and strong fighter. On the other hand, some people were optimistic of advanced technologies’ potential (潜力) to build a better world. In the 1960s TV show Lost in Space, a family of humans were helped by a friendly robot named Robby.
Nowadays, there is less concern of an all-powerful AI trying to destroy the world, and we are not expecting friendly robots just yet. That doesn’t mean there is not a lot of excitement and concern being felt towards new technologies like AI, though. ChatGPT is a great example of a modern technology that is causing mixed feelings.
It’s too soon to say what kind of influence ChatGPT will have on our lives. Let’s hope that, if ChatGPT does become bigger and more popular, its effects are mostly positive. So, what do you think? Will ChatGPT be good, bad, or somewhere in between for humankind?

Beep...beep...There went the bell! Robbie opened his eyes. It was 5:00 p. m. And it was time for him to do something.
Robbie looked out of the window. It was still snowing heavily and there was ice on the window. It was a cold day. Robbie got a message from his master(主人).He knew he should turn the heat(暖气)on before the family got home, and he did it.
Then Robbie was told to do some cleaning work at once. It was an easy job for him, but a little difficult for his master, Helen. He kept on working until every room was clean and tidy.
After that Robbie had to cook dinner for the family. The first thing he did was to get the big pot in the kitchen. Then he put some water in the pot and put it on the stove. He used one of his hands to cut up a chicken and added the pieces to the water to make delicious soup. Then he got some tomatoes, cabbages and carrots to make vegetable salad.
At 8:10 in the evening, he put some bread, the chicken soup and the salad on the table. The moment he turned on the lights, the whole family came home.
“It’s warm here and the soup smells great, Victor, ”said Helen to her son. “We really know how to tell Robbie what to do.” Robbie was a robot and he really helped the family do a lot of work.
