When Jean Harper was in the third grade, her teacher Mrs. Dean asked her pupils to write a report on what they wanted to be when they grew up. She expressed her dream of becoming an airline pilot. Her paper came back with an “F”on it. The teacher told her it was a “fairy tale”. “Girls can’t become airline pilots!” the teacher added.

In her senior year of high school, her English teacher was Mrs. Slaton, a strict teacher. One day Mrs. Slaton asked this question, “What will you do in the future?” With excitement she wrote down the very old dream right away.

The next thing that Mrs. Slaton said changed the course of Jean’s life. “I have a little secret for you. You do have abilities and talents. When you leave school, if you don’t go for your dream, no one will do it for you. _______”

Jean Harper told her teacher about her dream of becoming a pilot. Mrs. Slaton slapped(拍) the desk top, “Then just do it!” she said.

So Jean did. It didn’t happen overnight. In her 10 years of hard work, even facing all kinds of difficulties, she never gave up her dream.

As you can guess, Jean Harper became a Boeing 737 captain of the United Airlines.

One day when four government officials were cleaning a barn(谷仓), they found a mouse hole. They tried to force the mice to come out with smoke. After a short time, they saw two mice came out slowly. To their surprise, it seemed that one mouse was trying to bite (咬) the tail of the other. So they have a closer look. Finally, they realized that one mouse was blind, and the other was trying to allow the blind mouse to bite on his tail so that he could lead him to escape(逃跑).

In fact, the true love is not built on friendship, loyalty(忠诚) or blood relationship. Instead, it is based on no relationship.

Ms. Hagen had asked that every student entered the science fair this year. Kyle and Seth were divided into a group, much to Kyle’s upset. Everyone knew that Seth was the laziest kid in the class. He never finished his homework, and he was always talking rather than listening in class. The boys decided to meet at Kyle’s house after school to plan their project.

Seth arrived with a backpack that was filled with test tubes, magnets (磁铁), and other needed materials. Kyle was surprised. Why would this lazy kid have such cool things? At first, when Kyle suggested building a model of the solar system (太阳系), Seth told me all kinds of facts about each model planet quickly. Maybe Kyle had been mistaken about Seth.

But finally, the boys agreed to experiment to find the best place to store bananas. The boys met each day after school and believed that their project would be the best. Kyle worked on writing the report, while Seth continued to question and study further. They found they made a quite strong team.

Ms. Hagen told Kyle that she was proud of him for helping Seth with the project. Kyle had to explain that Seth was responsible for much of the work. He went on to ask if Seth could be his partner for next month’s math project.
