What has many rings but is not a shopping mall? It is Saturn (土星). Its rings look really beautiful! But unluckily, they will disappear within 300 million years because of “ring rain”. Saturn’s rings are made of ice and rocks. The gravity (重力) pulls these things and makes them fall down to the planet. About 600,000kg of these things fall every minute! They could fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool in half an hour. Scientists don’t have an answer how the rings came out. Some think that large comets (彗星) hit Saturn’s moons. The moons then broke up into pieces and became the rings. Others think the rings are just part of Saturn. Saturn has seven main rings. They are different in size and width. E ring is the farthest from Saturn. It is the largest planet ring in our solar system(太阳系).
【小题1】How many main rings does Saturn have?A.300 | B.600,000 | C.7 | D.300 |

A.出现 | B.消失 | C.增加 | D.减少 |
The 2022 Winter Olympics were held successfully. Athletes across the world came to Beijing and Zhangjiakou. Winter sports need to be in cold places. So, is it possible to hold the Winter Olympics on other planets?
Mercury水星
It’s the closest planet to the Sun. In the daytime, the temperature can be 430℃. At night it cools down to -200℃. There’s one area that the Sun can never reach. There’s lots of ice there. Maybe we could go speed skating there!
Mars 火星
The temperature on Mars is between -140℃ and 30℃. At the north and south poles of Mars, there are areas covered by ice and snow. Some of the ice is made of carbon dioxide, not water. There is also a big mountain called Mount Olympus. So maybe we can ski on Mars!
Pluto 冥王星
Pluto is a dwarf planet(矮行星) far away from the Sun. It’s very cold there, about -229℃. There’s lots of ice. It’s even harder than steel(钢铁). So maybe we could go sledding(滑雪橇) on Pluto.
【小题1】Which planet is the nearest to the Sun?A.Pluto. | B.Mars. | C.Mercury. | D.Earth. |
A.430℃ | B.30℃ | C.-200℃ | D.-140℃ |
A.Because some areas are covered by ice and snow. |
B.Because some of the ice on Mars is made of water. |
C.Because of the highest temperature on Mars. |
D.Because of the highest mountain on Mars. |
A.very cold only in the daytime | B.very cold all day and all night |
C.very hot in the night | D.very hot in the daytime |
We want to explore and try to better understand the world in which we live. Space exploration (探索) is one of the ways. Through the exploration of space, we can begin to unravel the mysteries of our universe and to better know our living environment.
Space exploration provides us with knowledge about the beginning of our solar system (太阳系), our own planet and ourselves. It also helps answer the questions that have puzzled us for many years. Solar system exploration is important because it is good for us.
Space technology has become an important part of our daily lives. Some technology uses satellites (卫星) to communicate. Satellites are also used to examine the changes in the Earth’s climate (气候) and seas, for weather report and for military (军事). We also use satellites in food production. Because of the use of space technology in crops, fewer and fewer people will suffer (受苦) hunger.
The space program provides a chance for nations to work together. The cooperation (合作) promotes (促进) peace and understanding between governments and their people. Many governments have taken part in the space technology, including the United States, Russia, Japan, the European nations and India. In the near future, other nations will take part in it. In fact, the United States remains the leader in new space technology.
【小题1】The underlined word “unravel” in the first paragraph means “________” in Chinese.A.解开 | B.描述 | C.相信 |
A.Difficulties in space exploration. |
B.The advantages of space exploration. |
C.The answers to the questions of space exploration. |
A.reporting the weather |
B.examining the changes of seas |
C.changing the climate of a certain place |
A.The United States | B.Russia | C.Japan |
A.Poor countries don’t agree to explore space. |
B.People in different countries have different ideas on exploring space. |
C.More and more countries will take part in the space program. |

![]() | Curiosity, NASA’s Mars rover (探测器), recently took the world by surprise. It took a picture of a small “flower” while it was exploring the surface of Mars. Clearly, it’s not an actual flower. But it could be a rock that had been created a long time ago. Back then, the Red Planet possibly had water on its surface. The effort of the rover could help answer the question of whether life ever existed on Mars and understand when Mars might have been most suitable to host life. |
![]() | Saturn’s (土星) beautiful rings which are made of ice and rocks won’t last forever. Scientists say that they are slowly breaking apart and will totally disappear in about 300 million years. The rings now may be 10 — 100 million years old. According to The Atlantic, 10 tons of “ring matter” fall into Saturn every second. They all get pulled by Saturn’s gravity. Jupiter (木星), Uranus (天王星) and Neptune (海王星) also have ring systems. Saturn has the largest rings, though — the others’ rings aren’t as easy to see, they may have had bigger rings in the past. |
A.Three. | B.Four. | C.Five. | D.Six. |
A.The two pictures were both taken by NASA’s Mars rover. |
B.The ring systems of Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune are easy to see. |
C.There is no doubt that Mars had water on its surface long ago. |
D.The beautiful rings of Saturn will disappear because of the gravity. |
A.There is a real flower in the picture. |
B.The picture was taken by accident. |
C.The “flower” proves that there were lives existing on Mars. |
D.The picture will help us have a better understanding of Mars. |
A.By offering numbers. | B.By asking questions. |
C.By giving examples. | D.By making comparisons. |
A.compare Mars with Saturn | B.show the new discoveries of space |
C.introduce the changes of the two planets | D.encourage us to protect the planet we live |
