Several months ago, a traffic policeman in Moscow led(牵) a horse walking on the street. The horse is like a zebra. The police wanted to give the drivers a lesson. And he also wanted to tell the students safety is very important. The traffic policeman led the zebra to several different places handing out the flyers (发传单) to the passing drivers.
The roads in Russia are very dangerous but drivers still don’t give way to the walking people. Every year, many people are killed or injured in road accidents. Nearly half of all traffic accidents were caused by cars hitting pedestrians(行人), and a third of those happened on crossings.
The traffic policeman wanted to give people a lesson, but the animal rights people were very angry with the police for “treating animals like garbage”.

DRIVER TIREDNESS
Every year, hundreds of travelers are killed or injured because drivers are sleepy or fall asleep at the wheel. If you choose to drive long distances, avoid(避免)driver tiredness in these ways:
• Take a break every 2 hours.
• Share the driving.
• Make sure that you are well rested before you start a long trip.
• Avoid driving late at night or early in the morning which are the times when you would normally be asleep.
SEAT BELTS
Everyone in the car must wear a seat belt. It is the law. Children are not safe sitting in the front seat or on an adult’s knees. Babies under the age of six months, and small children need special child seat belts. Many garages have special safety seat belt fitting stations which can help parents to fix these seat belts correctly.
• For the location of your nearest station call 1800042765.
SPEED LIMITS
Speeding gives you less time to react to an emergency(紧急情况). It also increases the crash(撞车)of accidents. The general speed limit is 60 km per hour in areas with street lights. Always look out for sign-posted speed limits; The maximum (highest) speed limit is 100 km per hour on most open roads.
Remember:
• You may need to drive more slowly in wet weather.
MOTORWAYS
Because traffic travels at high speeds on motorways, you must be especially careful.
Remember:
• Don’t stop on a motorway except in an emergency. If you must stop, move off the roadway completely.
• Don’t make a U-turn or go backwards on a motorway.
• Keep to the left unless overtaking(超车).

Check for traffic jams before you leave. You can listen to the radio for traffic news, or check on the Internet to get up-to-minute information on traffic. If the route you want to take is heavy with traffic, you can choose another.
Look for a different route all the time. Most traffic jams happen on busy roads. Using country roads could avoid a lot of traffic. Although the distance you may have to travel is further, it can work out quicker.
Set your car radio to receive traffic bulletins. Many new car stereo systems (汽车音响系统) are equipped with a radio system by which you can hear the traffic channel. This way you can get the latest traffic information and change your journey if necessary.
__________ Most traffic jams usually occur(发生) during rush hour, so try to avoid this time period if possible. Some jobs offer flexible working hours so that you can travel to work outside of rush hour. Some jobs even allow you to work at home so as to avoid moving altogether. Ask your manager to see what you can do if traffic is a problem for you.
Use public transport instead. The easiest way to avoid traffic jams is to take buses or the underground instead of driving your own car. Not only will you avoid traffic jams but you will most likely be saving money.
