My name is Sam. I’m a worker of the National Zoo now.

Every morning, I have to get up at 5 o’clock and give food to all the animals. The animals eat different food. The lions and the tigers love to eat meat. The rabbits eat carrots. The birds eat nuts. The elephants like to eat vegetables.

At 10 o’clock, I clean the animals’ rooms. This is dangerous when I am with lions and tigers. I have to lock (锁住) the animals in the other rooms when I am cleaning. Then I play with the animals. I have to work on Sundays and public holidays (公众假日), but I can have a holiday one day in a week. I like to be with the animals. I like to tell my friends about the animals. Welcome to the National Zoo.

Many people like animals. Now a lot of people keep animals as pets. Usually people like to keep dogs, cats, fish and other animals. Many young people keep animals because they think these animals are interesting. Some old people keep pets because they don’t live with their children.

Molly lives in No. 20 Garden Street. He is a doctor (医生), but he helps dogs. People usually call him The Dog Doctor. When their dogs get sick (生病), they call him on the telephone. He goes to the people’s houses and helps them. He gives the dogs medicines (药物). Wherever (无论) he goes, he is always welcome.

Jeff has a pet. It’s a dog. It is white. Jeff likes it very much. He thinks the dog is very smart. It can play ball games and it can buy newspapers for Jeff. Every morning, Jeff puts one dollar into the dog’s mouth and it goes to the shop to buy newspapers for Jeff.

Jeff has a good friend Mark. Jeff tells Mark about his smart dog. But Mark doesn’t believe it. Today, Mark comes to see Jeff in the morning. Jeff is playing with his dog. Mark says, “I will give your dog money. I don’t think it can buy newspapers.”

“Have a try,” says Jeff.

Then Mark puts money into the dog’s mouth and the dog walks out. After ten minutes, the dog doesn’t come back. After an hour, the dog doesn’t come back.

“How much money do you give the dog?” asks Jeff.

“Five dollars.”

“Well, if it has five dollars, it will go to the movies,” says Jeff.
