One afternoon, Andrew, a 13-year-old boy, went to a shopping mall together with his father. They were chatting happily and making their way through the crowded food market. Suddenly, they heard a sharp cry—a young lady holding a number of bags fell over. Then all the things in the bags were thrown across the floor.

Andrew watched for a while, and went on. But then he found his father wasn’t with him. Looking around, he noticed his father bending down and helping the lady pick up the things. Feeling a little bad for not trying to stop and help, Andrew simply stood there and waited.

Soon, the father handed the lady all her things. However, the lady simply took them away, even without looking at him. Finally, she said, “I can do it myself!” Andrew was shocked when seeing the lady’s impolite act.

Even in the sports store, Andrew spent most of the time complaining (抱怨). Later at dinner, Andrew told his mother the whole story, expecting her to join him in complaining. Unexpectedly, his mother just kept smiling. Finally, she looked at her husband who was happily enjoying his meal and said, “Son, your father left that woman behind hours ago. Why are you still with her?”

Andrew’s face suddenly turned red! It’s okay to show anger and unhappiness. However, don’t let them affect (影响) you and how you see the world. Remember: the best way to stay happy is to let things go!

Life is full of happiness and bitters. Do you choose to live a happy life or a bitter one?
In my opinion, happiness is for everyone. You don’t need to care about those who have beautiful houses with large gardens and swimming pools or those who have nice cars and lots of money and so on. Why? Because those who have big house may often feel lonely and those who have cars may want to walk on the country roads at their free time.
In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it. When you are in trouble at school, your friends will help you; when you study hard at your lessons, your parents are always taking good care of your life and your health; when you get success, your friends will say congratulations to you; when you do something good to others, you will feel happy, too. All these are your happiness. If you notice them, you can see that happiness is always around you.
Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling of your heart. When you are poor, you can also say you are very happy, because you have something else that can’t be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving (旋转) door. When it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can be a happy and lucky person.

Comfort Zone is a state of mind where there is the least stress. However, stepping into the learning zone can help to bring out the best in us. Here are the reasons.

▲Challenging yourself can help you do at your best.

Stepping outside one’s comfort zone is important to personal development. How can we expect to make ourselves better if we only stick to habit and routine? We should try something we might not succeed at.

▲Taking risks is what helps us grow.

As children, we’re natural risk takers. But as we get older and learn to fear failure, we start trying fewer new things. We pay a heavy price for our fear of failure. There is no learning without some difficulty.

▲Facing new challenges can help us age better.

Our comfort bones seem to become smaller as we get older — but if we can keep expanding them, we’ll open ourselves up to a greater world as we age. As we step into the learning zone, we will get more comfortable with the skills gradually and we’ll start to move into the comfort zone. A study found that learning new life skills can help our brain stay sharp as we get older.

However, don’t push yourself too far. Have you heard of “Yerkes-Dodson Law”? It means performance increased as stress grows, but only up to a point. If the level of stress becomes too high, performance will go down. When stress becomes too great for us to deal with, we enter the danger zone.
