On the morning of June 4th, 2022, the D2809 high-speed train left Guiyang North Railway Station and headed for Guangzhou as usual. At around 10:30 am, it arrived at the entrance of Yuezhai Tunnel (月寨隧道口) in front of Rongjiang Station. Suddenly, one of the train drivers noticed that there was something wrong with the railway. As the train was running at a speed of nearly 250 kilometers per hour, any abnormality (异常) of the railway might lead to an incident. So the driver took action as quickly as he could. He took emergency braking measures (紧急制动措施) within 5 seconds at the time of the incident. After braking, the train continued to slide for more than 900 meters and hit Rongjiang station platform to stop. The driver’s quick action and the protective effect of the high-speed railway prevented the train from overturning and falling. However, this incident still resulted in the off-line of No. 7 and No. 8 cars. Eight people were injured.

The local government set out to rescue at once and the injured people were sent to Rongjiang County Hospital. All of them were safe but the driver, unfortunately, he died.

It turned out that there was a huge pile of mud near the entrance of Yuezhai Tunnel and after days of heavy rain, the mud became mudslides (泥石流). The mudslides flowed into the tunnel and covered the railway, which caused the incident.

How Can We Keep Street Traffic Safe?

When children are at school, they may get hurt. The number of child accidents in school is getting larger and larger. Most school accidents happen because of mistakes or carelessness. The school should try to stop the risk of child accidents anywhere at any time.

Here are the most common kinds of child accidents at school.

Falls

According to recent reports, falls cause 55% of all main accidents in schools. Most falls happen in the corridors(走廊), playgrounds, and stairs of the school. What’s more, child accidents may also happen in the classroom. For example, children can fall easily because of the schoolbag in the way.

To cut down the risk of falls, schools can put up warning signs at high-risk places. Teachers should also give lessons about school safety.

Sports Accidents

Playing sports often causes many child accidents at school. Children should warm up before doing sports, or accidents may happen easily.

What can schools do to try to stop sports accidents happening? They can offer better equipment(设施) for children.

School Bus Accidents

Many children are hurt in school bus accidents, because the drivers are not careful enough or make mistakes. Some children run around the bus and don’t have their seat belts(安全带) on. Sometimes, the buses are too old. It is also dangerous.

As a result, schools should train the bus drivers. Schools should also check the buses daily to help them work well. Besides, on the bus, teachers must make sure children have their seat belts on.

Three days ago, Tom, one of my classmates bought some food from a supermarket. He bought some beef, pork, chicken, fruit and vegetables. Because it was his fifteenth birthday, and he wanted to have a big party at home. He invited most of his classmates to share the food together. But after they had the food, all of them didn’t feel well. They got poisoned (中毒) and had a stomachache.

Then they were sent to the nearby hospital at once. The doctor there looked them over carefully, and then said the food they ate were poisonous. The doctor gave them some injections (打针) and some medicine to take at home. They were out of danger at last. But it was very dangerous. If they weren’t sent to the hospital in time, they would have had the danger of dying.

From this accident they realized (意识到) the importance of food safety. I hope all of us can pay more attention to it. If everyone can do something, there will be fewer food safety problems in our society. And I think the government should do something to solve the problem, too.
