Smart light
The smart light bulb can change color. You can control it through an app.

All you need to do is to turn on your phone and open an app. In the app, there is a wheel (颜色盘) of millions of colors for you to choose from. Smart lock
You don’t need to bring a key with this smart lock. Sometimes we lose keys. But if you use this smart lock, you don’t have to worry about it. You can use your phone to open the door in a few seconds. A Swiss designer Yves Behar made it You’ll need an app and to get an account (账户). Then you can name your locks and control them through the app. The account will also tell you when a lock is open or locked. It’s very easy to use.
Smart toilet
In a smart home, there must be a smart toilet. After all, we need to use it so often. Japanese company Toto made one. The toilet doesn’t need an app or the internet. Instead, it has a smart home toilet sensor (感应器). When you come close, the toilet will know and it will raise or lower the seat by itself. Scientists will put some robot fish into the sea near Spain this year. These robot fish will help people find out the pollution in the water. If the robot fish are able to finish their work successfully, the team of scientists hopes the fish will be used in rivers, lakes and seas around the world.
The robot fish are about 1.5 meters long. There is a detector (探测器) in their bodies. It can find the pollution in the water, and then the robot fish will eat part of it.
They can “swim” for eight hours in the sea freely and send back information to people on the beach. After their energy runs down, they will go back to the beach by themselves.
There are five robot fish altogether. Each costs about 29,000 dollars. They are part of a three-year project between engineering company BMT Group and Essex University in southeastern England.

Antonio López de Santa Anna, a former president of Mexico, was living in New York in the late 1860s. While he was there, he met with Thomas Adams, an inventor. Santa Anna shared with Adams his idea for an invention — a new process, really, for making rubber (橡胶) products such as tires (轮胎).
▲ Santa Anna thought it would be possible to blend the rubber with chicle (糖胶树胶), the milky juice of a tropical (热带的) tree. That would make rubber products much cheaper to produce. Adams told Santa Anna that he was willing to try. Later, Santa Anna prepared one ton of chicle to be shipped to Adams from Mexico.
Adams worked for about a year, trying different blends of rubber and chicle. None of them were successful. The inventor still had lots of chicle left over and wondered what to do with it. Then he remembered Santa Anna’s stories of people chewing chicle in Mexico. So Adams made a small number of chewing gum (口香糖), packaged it, and sold it in local stores. The gum was much tastier than other American gum, which was made from wax (蜡) or tree sap (汁).
Although Adams’s original idea was a failure, chewing gum was a success. In 1871, he invented a machine to produce gum so he wouldn’t have to make it by hand. Adams enjoyed success for the rest of his life, and people have enjoyed all kinds of tasty gum for years.
