Many people go to Utah because they love hiking in Bryce Canyon National Park. They enjoy 【小题1】(岩石) climbing, camping and so on. However, some people go to Utah for a very 【小题2】(不同的) experience.

The Boulder Outdoor Survival(生存) School(BOSS) in Utah is the world’s oldest survival school. It teaches people how stay alive without tents, or even backpacks. In Bryce Canyon, the days are very 【小题3】(热的) and the nights are very cold. Not everyone wants to go and experience life without modern 【小题4】(发明) like smart phones and e-books. Students at BOSS quickly learn that it is important to work hard and 【小题5】(尝试) new things if they want to complete the training.

In survival camps at BOSS students don't just practise camping, hiking or【小题6】(骑) horses. They go into the wild for days or weeks. They learn how to find 【小题7】 (新鲜的)water for drinking. They also learn how to make a fire, use a 【小题8】(小刀) and find food to eat.   Nature can often give them 【小题9】 (每件事) they need so survive.

After these people go back to the real world, they may never use these skills again. Even if they don’t, at 【小题10】(至少) they will always know that they can live without computers, electricity, and smart phones—even if it is only for a few days!

Last week my brother and I took a trip to visit friends and go skiing. During my time as a 【小题1】 (士兵), I had flown over these huge mountains many times. However, until last week, I never visited them at ground level.

The first day we went skiing, we drove into the mountains and soon followed the 【小题2】 (小溪) along the sides of mountains to the ski places. There we 【小题3】 (停放) our car. I put on my skis and went ahead to the lift.

As I rode the lift even high up the mountain, I watched the people 【小题4】 (在下面) move along the snow. At the top of the lift everything was 【小题5】 (惊人的) sights that I have ever seen. I 【小题6】 (逗留) on the mountain top for half an hour, which was circled by more snow-covered mountains — it seemed that I had moved into a postcard. I took a moment to reflect on the 【小题7】 (大自然的) beauty around me. It was 【小题8】 (实在，的确) valuable, not strong, and easily broken!

Now, I’m back home thinking about the things which I experienced in person on that mountain top. I 【小题9】 (意识到) how important the environment protecting is! If not, the same beauty will probably be 【小题10】 (消失的，失踪的) some day. So it’s necessary to take steps together to make our future much better.

Tom Fewins and Lara Lockwood used 78 buses, 61 trains, 34 cars, 18 boats, six bicycles, and e【小题3】 one elephant. They aimed to produce l【小题5】 than 3,000 kg of carbon dioxide（二氧化碳）, compared with six times that amount if they had gone by plane.

They spent ten months travelling 44,609 miles t【小题6】 18 countries on land and sea. The couple’s world tour b【小题7】 in June 2008 with a two-hour bus trip to London from their home in Oxforshire. They took the train to Brussels and then c【小题8】 a bus and train to Hamburg before going to Copenhagen. The couple even r【小题9】on an elephant for 15 miles through the Chinese part of the Mekong River（湄公河）.

The couple hoped to write a book about their j【小题10】. They thought it could teach other travelers how to travel in a greener way.
