Do you want to know PE classes in different countries? Let’s have a look!

Li Ming, Guangdong, China

We have PE tests both in middle school and high school. To get good grades on the PE tests, we will need to run and do sit-ups and pull-ups. It is also important for us to prepare for the test. But we need to be careful not to get hurt before the test.

Steven, New York, America

In my school, we must take two semesters of PE lessons. We play real sports during PE classes, such as basketball and volleyball. There are also kickball and dodgeball (躲避球) and some other special American sports. At first, I didn’t know the rules of these sports. The teacher let me sit on the sidelines and watch how other students played them in order to let me know the rules. In my opinion, sports can help us relax when we feel stressed.

Betty, London, the UK

We learn some useful life skills in PE lessons. Last year, I learned how to do CPR (心肺复苏). We also learned how to provide first aid for someone. These skills are a large part of the final grade for the PE class in my high school. We also learn self-defense (自卫) in PE classes, such as tae kwondo (跆拳道),karate skills (空手道技能) and Chinese kung fu. It is helpful.

“I don’t have to take after-school classes each week. It’s good news for me. I didn’t want to take these classes because I often felt tired,” said a fifth-grade student in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The girl used to take Chinese, math and English classes on the weekend.

The students are happy because of the new education policy(政策) — “double reduction”(双减). On July 24, 2021, Chinese government made the policy for primary and junior high school students. The aim is to reduce the amount of homework and the burden(负担) of after-school classes on students.

Many parents and students show their support(支持) for the policy because it can lower students learning stress. However, parents should help with the students to deal with the new challenge(挑战) of making the best use of time after school. Puberty (青春期) is a stage (阶段) of life when young people leave childhood and head into adulthood. It is a difficult time for young people because it changes both their bodies and minds. They need to understand what is going on with their bodies, how to do with those changes and learn to take responsibility (责任).

A young person may begin puberty at 8, while another may not start puberty until 14 or 15. Usually, girls start puberty before boys do. For both girls and boys, it is usually complete by the age of 18.

During these years, the body develops in many ways. Feeling will also change quickly. Young boys at this stage are interested in having fun and being accepted by others. They need to think before they act and make up their minds for themselves.

A girl’s personality often does not develop in the same way as a boy’s. Young girls sometimes lose confidence in themselves. They are no longer sure of their own feelings. Yet they are usually afraid to tell their parents or teachers about their problems. For this reason, young girls should be encouraged to talk about things with trusted adults.

Parents, schools and communities can do a lot to care for and help young people. It is their responsibility to make sure that young people grow into healthy adults.

People with sweet childhood memories, especially good relationships with parents will have less stress and fewer diseases after they grow up, according to a research in the magazine Health Psychology.

“We found that good memories seem to have a good effect on health. Perhaps they can reduce stress or help us keep healthy in life,” said the researchers of the study

The researchers used more than 22,000 people in the study. They found that people who remembered higher levels of love from their mothers as children experienced better physical health later in life. Those who had memories with more support from their fathers also had less feelings of sadness.

Many people may experience the time when they are sad or feel they can’t enjoy anything. They hate being weak. So they hide their true feelings. But the research report says this behavior can even make the depression worse. The more attention people pay on happiness, the more disappointed they might probably be.
