Yuan Longping was 【小题1】 in Beijing. He studied in Southwest Agricultural College from1950 to1953. He worked very hard and he made a special study of rice in 1964. 【小题2】 of his hard work, he developed a new 【小题3】 of rice in 1974 to increase rice yield（产量）. Then he travelled 【小题4】 the world and gave 【小题5】 about growing rice. He helped many countries of the world grow more rice that he won World Food Prize. He is our hero. He is remembered by people around the world.

The famous scientist and thinker, Charles Darwin, was born on February 12, 1809. As a boy, Charles liked to go for walks in the fields and forests. He enjoyed 【小题1】 nature, and comparing what he saw with everything he had read in science books. He also liked collecting very much. He 【小题2】 many things, birds, eggs, stones and leaves. At sixteen, Darwin 【小题3】 to Edinburgh University to become a doctor. But he was interested in the history of nature. Then he went on to study in Cambridge University. There he studied until 1831. Some time later, he heard that the ship Beagle was going on a trip to South America and wanted a scientist. His teacher advised him 【小题4】. So when the Beagle left England in December, 1831, Darwin was on it. The trip lasted almost five years. Darwin saw many new plants and animals. He collected all kinds of plants. In 1842, Darwin went to live in Kent, and there he continued his studies of change in nature. Darwin understood that plants and animals 【小题5】 not always the same, and that they really change. By 1859, Darwin had finished his famous book The Origin of Species. In 1871, Darwin wrote another important book. Darwin continued his studies in science until he died in 1882.

September 23, 2021 marked the fourth Chinese Farmers’ Harvest (丰收) Festival. On that day, many students put flowers and cards 【小题1】 the sculpture (雕像) of Yuan Longping in Southwest University. One card read, “We will remember 【小题2】 us and will achieve your dream of sitting under the ears of rice to enjoy the cool day.” Besides Yuan Longping, many people also sent 【小题3】 to Wu Mingzhu on the Internet. Wu is an expert on watermelon research. The 91-year-old has spent all her life cultivating (培育) 【小题4】 thirty kinds of fruit in China. After Wu 【小题5】 Southwest University, she volunteered to research watermelons in Xinjiang in 1955, where working conditions were hard then. However, she spent three years visiting more than 300 production teams, identifying (确认) 44 kinds of watermelons.

In the 1990s, she and 【小题6】 developed “8424”, a high-grade watermelon in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. Then they 【小题7】 spread this kind of watermelon to northern areas of China. Her efforts have greatly changed the cultivation of watermelons in China. The doctor said she got Alzheimer’s 【小题8】 she was 81 years old. As time 【小题9】, her illness was more and more serious. She always forgot her friends or relatives. But she always remembered to ask others to 【小题10】 her watermelons.
