There is an interesting part of your body. It is always dying, and it is replaced(更新) every 28 days. Everywhere you go, you leave very small pieces of it. It is the largest part of your body. It is your skin(皮肤)
When we think of parts of the human body, we usually think of the heart or the brain. But the skin is also a part of your body. In fact, it makes up about 15% of your body weight and covers an area of about two square meters.
The skin is always replacing itself. Dead skin cells (细胞) are always falling off your body. In fact, scientists say that half of the dirt in your house is made up of dead skin.
The skin protects your body. Your skin is a covering for the inside parts. It also works hard to keep your body warm or cool. Very small holes in the skin can open or close to help control body heat.
Your skin is also a “feeler” for your body. It feels touch or pain. Parts of cells that feel touch are connected to the brain. When you touch something, your brain decides what to do and then tells your muscles(肌肉). But the parts that feel pain are connected straight to muscles. The muscles don’t need the brain to tell them to jump. Because of all the things the skin does, it truly is an amazing part of your body.

This wonderful body of mine is the house in which I live. This house has a kitchen called the stomach. Here the food is cooked, or “digested(消化)”, and prepared for being mixed with the blood. There is also a great pump(泵), the heart, which sends the blood through the house to keep it warm and in good condition. The head is the room where the owner of the house lives.
We should learn all about this house, and know how to keep it in good order. We should find out what is bad for it and what is good.
The first lesson on health that I have to learn is this: I must keep my body clean. Much of the dirt on the body comes not from the outside, but from the inside of the body. The skin is full of little pores(皮肤上的毛孔), through which the body gets rid of its waste. You see, that’s why it is necessary to keep the skin clean.
The second health lesson is: I must breathe fresh air. If a man can’t get air to breathe, he will die. But that is not all. Impure(不洁的) air is bad for him. Because the air contains oxygen and plenty of this gas must be taken into the blood, or else we can’t remain in good health when we breathe. The air passes down into the lungs and meets with the blood there.
The third health lesson is: I must take plenty of exercise. To make the body strong, we must use it. The parts that are most used become the strongest, and those used least will be the weakest. The boy who works and plays in the open air grows strong and healthy, while the boy who sits indoors and doesn’t take exercise often grows weak and unhealthy.

The size and shape of your ears show your character more than any other part of the face. Other parts of the face change shapes as we get older, but ears do not change their shapes. They only change in size.
Reading people’s character from their ears is a very old science. In the past people thought that a person’s ears with colour was dangerous. They also thought that the shape of the ears showed if a person was musical or not. Today, too many people believe that the size and shape of the ears help you know if a person is musical.
Ears are all different, and each different thing has a meaning. Next time you look at a person, see if his or her ears are large, medium-size, or small. Look at the lobes(耳垂). Do they stick to the face? Ears that are always red mean that a person may get angry easily. Ears that are always cold and white colour mean that a person has a nervous character.
