The Internet, mobile phones and iPads are parts of our lives now. Technology is greatly affecting all ways of our lives, from the ways we work to the ways we play. And it even causes a number of social problems such as cloning (克隆) humans.
We have had lots of technology and it has changed our lives a lot. There is no doubt that humans will continue to use more and more technology. Here are some examples of modern technology that will change our ideas and will affect our lives greatly.
Global positioning system (GPS) It’s a system that uses radio signals from satellites to show exact (精确的) information. It tells you where the user is on the Earth in all weather conditions. It’s made up of three parts: satellites, control equipment (设备) on land and receivers. |
Space technology Russian and American scientists have worked together for the International Space Station (ISS) for a long time. They hope the ISS will provide a long-lasting lab. Such a lab will bring humans limitless (无限的) advantages. It’s even hoped that one day space technology will take humans to their new houses in space. |
Underwater robot Hercules is a kind of underwater robot with some high technology equipment. It will be used to search for ancient ships which were destroyed into the deep sea during their journey long ago. |
The world is changing so quickly that it’s hard for us to catch up with all the new inventions because they seem to come out every month. It’s important for us to learn about new technology and the role that it plays in our lives. So we should be willing to accept modern technology, or we will fall behind the times.

If you think of the jobs robots could never do, doctors and teachers may be your answers. It’s easy to imagine smart cleaners and robot factory workers, but some jobs really need human thinking and creativity. Nowadays, robots already do a better job than doctors in hospitals in some way. Could there be a place for robots in education?
British expert Anthony Seldon thinks so. He believes in 2027 robots will do the main job of passing information and teachers will just help. They can even read students’ faces, movements and brain activities. However, it’s not a popular idea and it’s impossible that robots will really connect with humans like another human can.
But one thing is certain. A robot teacher is better than no teacher at all. In some parts of the world, there aren’t enough teachers. That problem could be partly solved by robots because they can teach anywhere and won’t get tired or move somewhere for a better job. Perhaps the question is not “Can robots do everything instead of teachers?” but “How can robots help teachers?”. If robots could help to save the time teachers spend on students, homework and reports, teachers would have more time and energy for the parts of the job humans do best.

Drones (无人机) can be helpful in many fields. This year, a team of volunteers in the UK saved a dog in a special way. They used a drone and meat. How did that happen?
On January 13th, Emma Oakes lost her dog Millie when they were out for a walk. Emma was very worried. She asked the team DDSAR for help. After about two hours, volunteers found Millie in a wetland. It was dangerous for Millie to stay there. The water was around her, and she might fall into it.
The DDSAR used a drone to follow Millie. Also, some policemen came and tried to get close to Millie by boat and on foot. But Millie was very afraid of those men. They made Millie move farther away from the safe place, so they had to stop their work. Later, one of the volunteers thought of an idea. He said they could use meat dangling from the drone, and then help Millie get to a safe place. The other volunteers and the policemen agreed with him and decided to do it.
Millie was very hungry and wanted to eat the meat. She followed the meat and left the wetland. Finally, Millie ran towards Emma. Everyone there was happy for them. Emma was thankful to all the volunteers and policemen for their hard work. The drone also played an important part in saying Millie. Emma said it was fantastic to get her dog back.
