From National Treasure to The Chinese Poetry Competition and then Everlasting Classics (《经典咏流传》), there are a growing number of TV shows about traditional Chinese culture and they’ve caught much attention. Now a new music show about traditional folk music, Flowers Bloom in Spring, has won praise since it first met the public last March.

This popular show was in the form of a singing competition and finally chose four best singers through its 12 episodes (集). A total of 28 groups of young artists took part in the show, and three well-known musicians played the role of Bole.

An Desheng, the producer of the show, said the artists performed over 140 folk music works. The show gave folk songs many modern elements (元素), making young people love to listen and sing. It also combined (使结合) traditional and classic folk songs with popular songs, allowing people to experience the folk songs in a fresh way.

“Now lots of traditional songs, which were created in the countryside, are nearly disappearing. We can’t admire the folk songs sung by the working people while taking a walk in the busy streets full of high buildings,” said Lei Jia, one of the three musicians, adding that she was touched by what the show had done to help young people develop an interest in folk music.

Flowers will bloom in spring, and folk songs will return to life with a brighter future. The new age has added wings to folk songs, and by singing, we’ll welcome the future together.

American boys and girls love to watch TV. Some children spend six hours a day in school and four to six hours a day in front of the TV set. Some even watch TV for eight hours or more on Saturdays.

TVs are like books or films. A child can learn bad things and good things from them. Some programs help children to understand the news, and others show people and places from other countries or other time in history. With TV a child does not have to go to the zoo to see animals or to the ocean to see a ship. Boys and girls can see a play, a concert or a game at home.

TV brings many places and events into our homes. Some programs show crime and other things that are bad for children, so parents sometimes help them to find other interesting things to do.

Dog TV, the first television channel (频道) for dogs, came out in America in 2012. Now people in 14 countries, including Australia, China, France and the UK, can watch it. Its service costs $9.99 a month. If you order a yearly service, it will save you $3.74 each month.

Believe it or not, Dog TV didn’t start as a TV channel for dogs. The idea for Pet TV came from Ron Levi. To let his cat Charlie have fun when he was out, Ron did some study and began to work with scientists and pet experts to bring his idea to life. What they didn’t expect was that dogs showed more interest in different kinds of programs than cats. Pet TV finally became Dog TV.

Dog TV provides (提供) relaxing video and music for stay-at-home dogs. Each program is about 3 to 6 minutes. The programs are different from time to time during the day. In the morning, programs are to get dogs out of bed and moving for the day. In the middle of the day, programs are to calm (使……冷静) dogs when they are home alone. For dogs scared of things like cars and loud noises, Dog TV has special programs with pictures and sounds to comfort them. The channel also has educational programs on health and training.

Dogs can only see blue and yellow, and they can’t see red or green. So the Dog TV show might sound and look a little different to people’s ear and eye. But don’t worry, Dog TV has programs for pet parents, too.
