If you are going to apply for a job, be prepared for the kinds of interviews you can expect. One type of interviews is the telephone interview. Here are some tips for telephone interviews:

________. Before the interview, guess and write down the questions you might be asked. Practice the answers orally until you are satisfied with yourself. The questions can be about your working experiences, skills and achievements.

Keep your notes handy. Have any key information next to the phone, including your notes about the company and the questions you have prepared for. Then you can easily get the information you need. In this way, you will sound more prepared.

Avoid salary topics. When you are asked how much money you would expect, it’s not wise if you give no response. But it’s not right to give an exact number at once. Try to be open to discussion, so you’d better say something like, “If this is the right job for me, I believe we can come to an agreement on salary.”

Push for a face-to-face meeting. At the end of the interview, don’t forget to sell yourself. You can say something like, “I am very interested in your company. If possible I’d be really happy to see some of your managers. I am free either Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning. Which would be better for you?”

Try to rearrange surprise interviews. If you receive an interview call without any expectation, you can politely ask them to arrange another time for the interview, so you can be better prepared. Try something like, “I am sorry but I can’t do it right now. Can I call you back tomorrow after work, at 6 p.m.?”

After the telephone interview, only a few are left for face-to-face interview, so get prepared and good luck!

People from some countries set up a certain festival to give thanks. But do you know there is a special day to say sorry?

Every year on May 26, Australian people come together, sharing the healing and sorry for the Stolen Generations and their families. That day is called National Sorry Day.

The first National Sorry Day was held on May 26, 1998. After Europeans landed in Australia, the government intended to erase Aboriginal culture. Thus, great numbers of Aboriginal children were taken away from their families and placed in institutions. There, they were treated badly and raised according to Western culture instead of their own culture. Those poor kids, later known as the “Stolen Generations”, never knew who their parents were or where they were. Their dark days finally ended on May 26, 1997 when a report, Bringing Them Home, came out. Thousands of Australians offered their apologies by writing messages and singing “sorry books” to the Stolen Generations. Since then, the National Apology has been a tradition in the country.

As a symbol of pride and power for Aboriginals, the Aboriginal flag can be seen everywhere that day. It is black (top) and red (bottom) with a yellow circle in the centre, which stands for the Aboriginals walking under the sun.

Besides raising Sorry Day flags, more activities take place around Australia nowadays. Many school children attend writing competitions and light candles for the Stolen Generations. Schools invite local Aboriginal elders to speak with students. Films about the Stolen Generations may also be shown for discussion. It’s not a public holiday, but everyone is welcome to take part in it.

Through National Sorry Day, Australians believe they will heal old wounds and right past wrongs.

Have you heard about “Survival Holidays”? “Survival Holidays” is for children to go into the lonely place for exciting activities. Now about 1,000 companies are allowed to take children into the great outdoors without their parents.
The reason why people like “Survival Holidays” is that they think being close to nature is good for children. Many children in big cities spend all time watching TV and playing computer games. “Survival Holidays” gives them an important change.
Is “Survival Holidays” a wonderful idea? Maybe it is. Children need more free time to play. They need to be left on their own, without grown-ups around them. Parents care too much about their children. They like to see the children being busy with activities that are designed by grown-ups, which brings many problems. Children don’t know what to do when they are in danger. Even something like crossing a small river seems to be a hard trouble. Children are not comfortable with danger. Even the smallest danger like getting their feet wet or falling down seems very terrible to them.
Many people think the survival activities are good for children. Even years later, they will still remember what they have learned. Some have learned to stay cool in different times. Some have learned how to keep safe. Others have learned how to work in a team. All these skills will help them a lot in their lives.
