Big Earthquake Hits Türkiye and Syria
On the early morning of February 6, a big earthquake hit Turkiye and Syria. It had a magnitude of 7.8. Unluckily, more than 41,000 people 【小题1】 (kill) in the earthquake.
The earthquake happened in Türkiye near 【小题2】 (it) border (边境) with Syria. Earthquakes are common in this area, but that was 【小题3】 (strong) earthquake to hit Turkiye in more than 80 years. It was strong enough to be felt as far away as Egypt and Iraq.
The earthquake was followed 【小题4】 over 130 aftershocks (余震). Aftershocks are usually smaller earthquakes that happen after a larger one. In this case, though, some of the aftershocks were 【小题5】 (exact) as strong as the large one. One even had a magnitude of 7.5.
Nearly thirty 【小题6】 (country), including China, have sent rescue teams to Turkiye and Syria. So far, thousands of people have been saved. Medical workers are racing against the clock to care for the people who get hurt. A convent (修道院) in Syria also takes action. “We want to make sure that everyone can be safe here, 【小题7】 we open the doors to the public.” said the head of the convent.
The earthquake has also caused damage (损害) to thousands of buildings in both Turkiye and Syria. UNESCO (联合国教科文组织) was “especially worried” about Aleppo, which is 【小题8】 ancient city in Syria. “Great damage has been found in the city,” the 【小题9】(organize) said. “The western tower of the old city wall has fallen down.” 【小题10】 (save) the city from destruction (破坏), UNESCO added it to its List of World Heritage in Danger in 2013.
