Now, Litwin writes full time. Recently, Nolan, a reporter, interviewed him. Here's part of their conversation.
Nolan: When did you want to be a writer?
Litwin: When I was a third-grade teacher, I noticed that many of my students found reading boring. I thought I needed to play a part in changing the situation. I began to mix reading and writing with music to make the experience more enjoyable for my students.
Nolan: Where do you get the inspiration(灵感) for your stories?
Litwin: My inspiration comes from the wish to help children fall in love with reading. ________.
Nolan: How did you come up with Pete the Cat?
Litwin: I know an artist who had created a fictional cat named Pete. I fell in love with the character as soon as I heard of it. I modified(稍改) a story I had written about a little girl with white shoes and turned it into the book. Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. I finished the first four books in the series.
Nolan: What do you hope children will remember the most about your stories?
Litwin: In each story I write, one of the characters has a problem and later learns to solve the difficulty I hope children can learn from the characters.
