Let me tell you something about sharks. Sharks are among the oldest animals in the world. There are over four hundred and forty different kinds of sharks in the world. Whale sharks are about twelve metres long and live in the ocean.

Sharks can smell something in the water, for example, the blood of animals. That helps them find their food. Sharks mainly eat fish, other sharks and plants in the ocean.

Most sharks bite (咬) people by mistake. They think a person is a large sea animal. When the sun rises or goes down, sharks are looking for food. So at that time people shouldn’t go swimming in the ocean.

A 5.7-meter-tall giraffe has been named the world’s tallest giraffe by Guinness World Records.

Twelve-year-old Forest has been officially named the tallest living giraffe after the workers at Australia Zoo in Queensland, Australia were able to measure him after months of trying.

They made a measuring pole (测量杆) and put it close to a feeding station in the giraffe house. They then waited several months to get the videos and photos needed by Guinness World Records.

Forest lived in Auckland Zoo in New Zealand at birth, and was moved to Australia Zoo when he was 2 years old. He is much taller than the other two giraffes at the zoo, both of whom are female (雌性的). Forest has been very important at the zoo. As the father of 12 young giraffes, he is still in the breeding period (繁殖期).

Giraffes are the tallest animals on Earth. The average (平均的) adult male giraffe is between 4.6 and 5.5 meters tall. The tallest giraffe was 5.8 meters tall. The giraffe, called George, arrived at England’s Chester Zoo from Kenya in 1959, but died in 1969.

To-wit-to-woo, to-wit-to-woo! What’s that strange sound coming from the forest in the moonlight? It’s an owl, of course!

All day long, seated comfortably on a tree, the owl is sleeping or at least he’s trying to snooze, because it’s sometimes hard to close the eyes with all the sounds made by the little birds and animals in the forest! The owl hunts only at night. When evening comes, the animals all get to a safe place. The owl opens its big, round eyes. Any little animal around had better watch out! The owl mostly eats small animals like mice, but it wouldn’t say no to another bird, if it gets the chance!

The owl uses its fantastic hearing to find its food, and then it turns its head from side to side, using its sharp eyes to follow the animal. Finally, it flies down to get the animal. Owls have special, soft feathers, so they can fly without making any sound. Owls are such good hunters that they can even catch a fly in the air!

The owl is quiet most of the time, except when you get too close to its home. The owl is a great mother, who will protect her babies by opening her feathers angrily. An owl will even hurt people if she thinks her babies are in danger!

An owl has no teeth, so it eats an animal whole. All the parts of the animal that the owl can’t digest (消化) will end up as small pieces. If you find these small pieces, you know you are near an owl’s home.
