Once upon a time there was a fisherman named Leo. He was a kind, gentle, polite man, but children laughed at him because of the way he looked.

When Leo was a child, he had an illness and that left many deep scars on his face. So, when the children saw him in town they would make fun of him. Leo was not upset because he understand they were only children.

One day, three boys found a small boat. They decided to get in the boat and go out to sea. They were having a lot of fun until they were very far from the beach. They tried to get back, but they were not able to. After an hour or so, the boy started to be afraid. Soon it would be dark and their parents would get worried. The boys thought they would be lost at sea!

After several hours, it was very dark and the boys could see nothing but the sea, the stars and some lights far away. Then, they saw something coming towards them. As it got closer, they found it was a fishing boat. A man called out to them. It was Leo, the fisherman! Leo helped the boys into his boat.

The boys were safe and they never made fun of Leo again.

Campbell Remess is a teenager from Australia. He is sewing (缝制) teddy bears for sick children and he has done it for several years.

The story began in 2013 when Campbell was nine years old. He told his parents that he wanted to give Christmas gifts to children in hospitals. But his parents said no, because with nine children of their own, buying gifts for sick children would just cost too much. The little boy didn’t give up, however. He decided to make their gifts by himself.

Campbell made his first teddy bear with a sewing machine in his bedroom. It was hard for him as he didn’t do this before. He downloaded ( 下 载 ) patterns from the Internet and learned how to make a teddy bear by watching videos online. It took him five hours to finish his first teddy bear. He can now make a teddy bear in an hour. He also started a program called “Program 365 by Campbell”, meaning “he tries to make a teddy bear every day”.

In his free time, young Campbell uses his pocket money to buy materials for making teddy bears. Many people know Campbell’s story and they give away free materials to him.

Campbell has given away about 1,300 teddy bears so far. He is now busy making this year’s teddy bears. He said that he never thought of stopping and he would keep putting smiles on people’s faces.

My two little daughters and I usually go out and help others on Thankful Thursday. Last Thursday we were going to buy lunch for the beggers（乞丐）in the street. Then we went to the nearest McDonald’s. I ordered 15 lunches from it and drove my car to hand them out. We gave the lunches to the beggers. They were excited. We were happy to see that. Then we noticed a small, old woman, asking for pocket money. We gave her our last lunch bag. Before we got into the car, she started to speak to us, “No one has ever done anything like this for me before.” she said with a smile. “ Well, I’m glad that we were the first,” I answered. “So, when will you eat your lunch?” I asked.

She just looked at me with her big, tired brown eyes and said, “Oh, dear, I’m not going to eat this lunch. You see, I have a little girl of my own. I usually can’t buy her favorite food, but today she will be so happy!”

I didn’t know if the kids noticed the tears in my eyes. I have asked many times whether our actions of kindness are too small to change anything. Yet at that moment, I realized the truth of words: “We can’t do great things—only small things with great love.”
