When you think of a new place for growing food, you might think of Mars. But one Italian family believes one possible place is right here on the Earth: the ocean.

Nemo’s Garden is the world’s first underwater system of land plants. Located off the coast of Noli, Italy, it is made up of several greenhouses. Each of them is connected to the seafloor. “The aim of it is to change farming, and add a possibility for growing plants in the ocean. What we have on Earth will be used up one day, and such gardens can offer us added space.” says Luca, the son of the family.

Luca’s father, who enjoys diving and gardening, came up with the idea. In 2012, the family began with planting basil underwater. Now Nemo’s Garden is growing strong.

According to Luca, underwater planting has some advantages over traditional farming. In their garden, growing six to ten meters underwater, the plants are separated from any outside viruses. The temperature of the ocean water is also perfect for plants. Besides, with high technology, Nemo’s Garden uses water-based nutrients (养分) instead of soil.

What’s more, there is little influence on the underwater environment, so no harm is caused to sea creatures.

More work is done to make sure underwater planting works well. Everything is watched and checked on land through cameras and sensors. And if there is something wrong, the family will change the settings in the greenhouses. When it’s time to collect the vegetables, a diver will cut them, place them in bags and send them to the surface.

“Many local people were doubtful about our idea. Some people are realizing that it works, and it helps put Noli on the tourist map.” Luca says, “We need someone who thinks about crazy things. It might be something, or it might not. But we have the courage to try. We have bigger plans although it will take years to work on them.”

Riding a shared bike on the street, you might hear some people speaking Chinese aloud. Turning to the right, you see a Sichuan-style restaurant. After walking into a store, you see that Huawei smartphones are on sale. But you’re not in China—you’re in Manchester in Britain. In fact, you might see similar things in many other cities. Chinese products have been going all over the world.

Chinese food has been enjoyed in Western countries for a long time. To meet local people’s tastes, Chinese restaurants have made some changes to the dishes. “One example is the meat,” said Yin Hang, a Chinese student who is studying in Australia. “We like to eat meat with the bone in, but people here don’t. So the local Chinese restaurants provide big pieces of meat without bones (骨头), even for fish.”

Some Chinese brands are also becoming more popular. It is reported that in many cities in Europe, many stores sell TCL televisions, Haier fridges and Lenovo computers. More than half of US-owned drones (无人机) are Chinese models. According to China Daily, they’re not only made in China, but also designed and developed in the country.

In the past, most Western people thought Chinese products were cheap and unreliable. But now, things have changed greatly. More people trust Chinese brands. “Made in China” becomes cool. “They are beautiful and offer something special that American phones don’t have,” an article on CNN once said about Chinese smartphones.

As it is said, Chinese government has been trying its best to improve its national brands of all kinds to meet the needs of modern life.

If you look at the top of your phone, you'll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The G stands for the“ generation(代)”of your mobile network. But these symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive.

However, it takes time to send and receive this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don't receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer, according to CNN.

5G could also be used to power the Internet of Things (IoT物联网). This refers to a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast Internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. The IOT could be used in a lot of ways. For example with IOT your refrigerator could automatically(自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside.
