Li Yong is very fond of travelling. When he was five, his father took him to Beijing on a short holiday. He was amazed at the beauty of the capital city and hoped to see more of the world. At the age of seven, he travelled with his uncle to a tourist site in a neighbouring county(县). Unfortunately, he got lost there, and when his uncle found him, he was happily eating an ice cream at a police station. After he became a university student, he only returned home for short visits and spent nearly all his holidays travelling. However, he never asked his parents for any money. Instead, he would make money by selling his paintings. Last month he travelled to Paris. When he was on the plane, he realized that he had very little money with him. However, he was not worried at all. During the following two days, he earned enough money for his hotel room by painting pictures for people. Many French people came to him for his paintings, and he sold them at a very good price. It is very easy for him to make money during his travels. Next year, he plans to visit Africa.

Sophie Chen is a l4-year-old girl from Taiwan. Let's see her Silk Road bike journey. When she was 6 years old she did something amazing. She finished a 2100-kilometer bike journey from Xi'an to Turpan (a city in Xinjiang) with her parents. It took them two and a half months to finish the bike journey. Sophie became the youngest child in the world to bike along the Silk Road. The Chinese novel Journey to the West inspired (激励) her to do so.

Now Sophie studies at Ta Hwa High School. She sees the journey as a special experience in her life. She learned history and geography better because of it.

On the way, the local people that she met were all friendly and she saw amazing things too. She even picked grapes. She said the grapes were bigger and sweeter than those in Taiwan.

She said the biggest challenge(挑战) was the bad weather and road conditions. So far, Sophie has biked in other countries, such as the United States and Turkey. In this summer holiday, she plans to ride a bike from Greece to Portugal in Europe.

Many people like travelling ( 旅行 ) by plane, because it is fast. I don’t like it because an airport (机场) is usually far from the city. You have to get there early and wait for hours for the plane to take off ( 起飞 ) and it is often late. You can’t open the window. You can’t choose the food. Planes are fast, but they still take hours to get out of the airport and into the city.

I like traveling by train. I often take the train to go travelling. I think trains are safe. Train stations (火车站) are usually in cities. When you can’t catch a train, you can catch another one. You can walk around in the train and open the windows. You can see many interesting things on the way, though it takes a little more time.

I also like cars, and sometimes I go travelling by car. You can start your trip when you want to, and you don’t need to get to a train station or a bus stop. Also you can carry many things with you in a car. But sometimes there are too many cars on the road.
