It’s not easy to be an astronaut’s son. Everybody expects you to be special. My father is special and good at everything he does. 1.______ For example, I want to save a child from a burning (着火的) building.

One morning my teacher said there would be a writing competition on Father’s Day for the whole school. When I got home, I started to think about what to write. My father is an astronaut. No, I wouldn’t start like that. 2.______ How did I see my father?

I saw him sitting with me in the dark when I had a terrible dream. 3.______ Yes, these were the things I was going to write. To me, he wasn’t just a famous astronaut. He was my dad.

My parents and I went to school that day. I was nervous about the result. The third prize was announced and it was not me. I thought I was going to be disappointed (失望的). The second prize was announced (被宣布). It was me. Dad put his arms around me and said, “You did a good job, my son. 4.______”

It was the happiest time of my life, too. Maybe I’ll never become a great hero (英雄) like my father, but it is enough just to be my father’s son.

I grew up in a small town. At that time, a week-long fair was held in the town every autumn. Thousands of people from other towns came to sell and buy things. It was the busiest time of the year.

When “Fairtime” came, my grandma became the most “useful” and busiest person in the family. Grandma was good at cooking. All her relatives liked the foods she cooked. When it was “Fairtime”, they would come to live in her house and have meals there. Grandma was always happy to look after them.

Year after year, many people moved to big cities. There was no longer “Fairtime”. Grandma became very old and couldn’t see things clearly. We did our best to make her life comfortable. However, she didn’t look happy. She often sat in her room for hours, without saying a word.

To attract people to move back, the mayor decided to reopen the fair. One day, when I came back from school, I saw Grandma wearing her glasses, washing the dishes in the kitchen. With a big smile on her face, she looked a lot much younger. She told me that her two nieces would come. “They said the food I cooked was very delicious and they wanted to stay in my house again.” Grandma said happily. “They will stay here for one week and we can have a big party. That must be the busiest week I’ve had in years!”

I suddenly understood that Grandma didn’t want to be looked after.

When I was about 14，I hated a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings. Week by week her list grew：I was very thin，I wasn't a good student，I talked too much，I was too proud and so on. I tried to stand all this as long as I could. At last，I became very angry. I cried and ran to my father.

（1）__________ Then he asked，"Are the things she says true or not？Jane，didn't you ever wonder what you' re really like？ Well， you now have the girl's opinion. Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are true. Pay no attention to the other things she said."

（2）__________ To my great surprise，I discovered that about half the things were true. Some of them I couldn' t change（like being very thin）. But a good number I could. And suddenly I wanted to change. For the first time I got a fairly clear picture of myself.

I brought the list back to Daddy.（3）__________ "That's just for you，"he said. "You know better than anyone else that truth about yourself. But you have to learn to listen. You shouldn't close your ears angrily and you shouldn't feel hurt. When something said about you is true，you' ll find it will be helpful to you. Our world is full of people who think you know your duty. Don't shut your ears. Listen to them all，but hear the truth and do what you know. It is the right thing to do."

Daddy's advice has returned to me at many important moments. In my life，I' ve never had a better piece of advice.
