Have you ever lied to someone? Students share their stories about this topic.
Student A: I tell lies sometimes because I don’t want to be criticized (指责). For example, I didn’t do well on an exam once. In order not to let my parents down, I told them I didn’t have any exams, so they didn’t scold (责备) me.
Student B: Because of vanity (虚荣), I lied once. I was on duty one day, but I was late, so I didn’t finish my work. When the teacher asked us whether anyone was late, in order to keep a good record, I didn’t admit (承认) that I was late.
Student C: I used to lie to my mom. She always told me to have a little nap (午睡) at noon. I told her I couldn’t fall asleep because it was noisy in the classroom, but actually I read novels at that time. I lied because I wanted to have time to do what I wanted, instead of something I don’t like, even though they are good for me.
Student D: I lie because I want to have privacy. I want my parents to give me enough personal space. I remember I went out with some friends one day. In order to make my parents not worry about me, I told them I went to study with some other students, so they wouldn’t ask too many questions.
