Most Chinese parents have great expectations of their children. When children are born, their parents have planned everything for them. It is common for parents to want their children to be successful. However, many children in China are unhappy. They live a planned life and are forced to fulfill the dreams.

In my opinion, there are two sides to parents’ expectations. The expectations can encourage children to work harder for a better life. According to some studies, whether a child will be successful or not depends largely on his or her parents’ expectations. However, unrealistic(不切实际的)expectations can be harmful to children. Every child has his or her own thoughts and feelings. Parents’ expectations can take children’s freedom away. Wise parents allow their children to have some freedom. They encourage their children to do things they like to do and never judge them only by their grades.

My parents’ expectations of me are to be happy, kind and healthy. They never put too much pressure on me, and I live a happy life. However, I have my own dreams. I keep working hard, though my parents do not force me to do so. I will never give up because my parents always encourage me when I am in trouble.

In a word, I think parents’ expectations are necessary. However, parents should not give their children too much pressure. Instead, give them enough freedom. Parents must make sure their expectations of their children are realistic so that their children will not lose their self-confidence.

Nobody likes a bully (恶霸). But every school seems to have a “bully”. In fact, bullying (欺凌) goes on in schools all over the world. Now bullying is a big problem around the world. Most students all over the world know much about it. Physically hitting someone is the most terrible way of bullying, but insulting (侮辱), gossiping (说闲话) and making fun of others are also common way s of bullying. According to the US National Bullying Prevention Center, one fifth of students in the US have been bullied.

Nathan Fellars is an eight-grade student at a middle school in Utah, US. When he saw classmates being bullied, he knew he had to do something. “People often deal with bullying after the bullying has happened. I wanted to see if there was a way to reduce (减少) bullying before it happened at all,” Fellars told the Society for Science.

After studying more about the causes of bullying, he had an idea to make the app Bully Block. On the app, students can share their lives, whether good or bad. Others can then send replies. But before the replies are sent, an AI program reads all of them. It will only show positive (积极的) words. Fellars believes that this will naturally stop bullying both online and in schools because good words can give positive energy (正能量). “I would love to see teachers and students use my project,” said Fellars. “I love knowing that my invention can help somebody else in the world.”

When the food we order at a restaurant arrives, the first thing most of us want to do is enjoy it right away. But for every person who just wants to eat their meal, there’s another who must take at least five photos of their food to share on social media.

While this may seem like a recent situation, “foodtography(美食摄影)” has been around for longer than one would expect.

Take US photographer Irving Penn for example. In 1947, Vogue magazine published a series of food photos taken by Penn. When people look at the carefully placed salad ingredients or the series of cakes on road shops, it would be easy to think Penn’s 70-year-old photos were taken just last week.

Besides Penn’s efforts(努力), it seems that social media is behind the recent rise of foodtography. Today, if a social media star with thousands of followers posts( 发 布 ) just one delicious-looking food picture and mentions where it was taken, it can lead to hundreds of new customers for the restaurant or café.

One such star is “Clerkenwell Boy” with over 100,000 followers in Instagram. He tries to use his influence for good by encouraging people not to waste food.

Research found that 55 percent of the 18- to 34-year-olds it surveyed were more likely to try to create Instagram-friendly dishes that can be popular in Instagram. Leading to increased food waste. So while it’s fun to share snaps of delicious dishes with your friends, just remember the most important thing: Don’t forget to eat your meal afterwards.
