Do you want to be a teacher? What characteristics make a great teacher?
Knowing the students
Great teachers always know their students’ needs. When children are crying for their parents and refusing to join the class on their first day at kindergarten(幼儿园), a great teacher sits with them till they calm down. In middle school, when students are learning about not only subjects, but also themselves, a great teacher is patient, understanding and able to talk with.
Loving the job
No teachers can be great without loving what they do. It’s easy to love teaching when things are going well, but teaching isn’t always easy. Teachers sometimes have their bad days. Great teachers can be patient and continue trying to reach out to each of their students. They never give up.
Being creative
Creativity can always get students’ attention. People can still remember some particular moments in their classroom though they have been away from school for many years. They remember a teacher turned a poem into a song. They remember the group activities that had more fun than exercises for testing their knowledge. Showing students something they haven’t seen before is the best way to impress them deeply.
All in all, the most important characteristic of a great teacher is the ability to bring out the best in students. Great teachers believe their students will become great people some day.
