I am Steve. I was born and grew up in South Wales. My favorite place to play was out on the hills where my imagination had plenty of space to expand(拓展).
My family moved out of Wales when I was thirteen. I went to a new school. One of my subjects was French. Because I had never learned any French, my teacher told me to sit in the corner and write anything I was interested in. That’s the time I started writing, just for myself, and I’ve been writing ever since.
I have always loved BIG IDEAS, and so I enjoy writing fantastic stories. And I also write horror(恐怖的)stories. I think they are like the old fairytales(童话故事), and can teach you important things.
I am in my forties on the outside, twelve on the inside. I like rock music, Indian and Chinese food, and I enjoy drinking. I live in a small village with my wife Mary, ducks, cats, goats, hens and lots of rabbits. If you’d like to find out more about me and hope to buy my books, go to www.sbowkett.freeserve.co.uk.

Dear mum and dad,

I'm writing this letter to you from the centre of Australia. At the moment we're staying near Uluru—that's the aboriginal (土著的) name for Ayers Rock. On the first day, we took a balloon tour over the rock, and I was surprised at how big it was: 3.6 kilometres long and 384 metres high. The colours of the rock are fantastic, and at different times of the day, they change                    from purple to red. The Aborigines are the first people of Australia, and the ancient aboriginal stories describe the spirits that created the world. Uluru is a centre of aboriginal culture.

The Australians have many British relatives. That's why they're like us in many ways. Their family life is similar to ours, and they enjoy the same food and hobbies. The food and drink that most Australians like are grapes, lamb, ham and especially wine that they make in the south of the country. They love all sports, but football is the most popular. Most Australians live near the coast, so they also love going to the beach, swimming and surfing.

Although it's December, it's summer over here. The sunshine is very bright, and near the coast the countryside is very green. There are lots of sheep in the fields and on the hills, but the outback (澳大利亚的内地) is more like a desert, full of rocks and sand.

The next day after we arrived at Uluru, we went on a camel(骆驼) ride. The camel that I rode had a bad temper. When I sat on its back, it became very angry and refused me. So everyone else thought it was very funny that my camel kept lying down...

Finally, later this evening, we're taking the plane back to Sydney and coming home. It's been a fantastic trip!

Tony

My family joined an environmental protection club named Green Future — a club to remind people to protect the earth. So our family held an activity “Bottle of Rubbish Challenge (挑战)”. That means the rubbish needs to be put in a 600 ml bottle. We decided to test our ability and produce as little rubbish as possible.

My father worked online all day, so he didn’t produce any paper waste except paper napkins (餐巾纸). He made the least rubbish in our family.

My mother cooked and produced plenty of kitchen waste, such as vegetable leaves, and food bags. What’s worse, we couldn’t eat all the food for dinner that day. So leftovers (剩菜) couldn’t be avoided. It was not easy for Mom to deal with all the rubbish, but she found a way to put it all into the bottle. How amazing!

My sister, a 16- year- old student, was busy preparing for her exams. She had to use paper to work out math or physics problems. She used only one side of the paper in the past. But from then on, she tried to use both sides of the paper because she realized we were challenging ourselves. She did a good job!

I was different from my sister. I love snacks and drinks. So my rubbish was the most. I was highly alert (警觉的) that I must produce less waste. I hardly ever had snacks or drinks. It was too difficult, but I did it!

I’ve learnt a lot from this activity. I realize that everyone can produce less rubbish. We should start with small actions to protect the earth!
