Self-disciplined(自律的)people are not all excellent people. But nearly all excellent people are self-disciplined people. Some of them read every day. Some of them never get late. The real difference between an elite(精英)person and an ordinary person is that an elite person can manage his or her time well. That’s where the success comes from. What people call self-management is in fact self-discipline.
One example is staying healthy. Never underestimate(低估)someone who is in good shape. Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows that it’s not easy. It’s even harder to avoid putting weight back on. If someone is in good shape, it means that this person is good at managing themselves and their time. Whether it is natural or acquired(后天的), it is a great skill. It also shows that this person is able to keep persevering and can balance long term-goals with short-term goals. So if someone is in good shape, he or she is far more than just healthy.
How can you learn self-management? First of all, set a goal and write down your reasons for wanting to achieve it. Create a list of all the things you need to do to achieve this goal and start to work on them one at a time. With self-discipline, small things in life will no longer trouble you. Only through self-discipline can you truly own your future.

Dear Mike, My good friend always wants to copy my homework. I don’t want to give her, but I don’t want to hurt her feelings, either. What should I do? Lisa |
Dear Lisa, I was the one who needed others’ “help” to finish my homework. I didn’t think it was a big deal (一件大事) as long as I understood the main points of the lesson. I copied answers from different students so my teacher didn’t catch me. Many of these “kind” students shared their homework generously (慷慨地), but my best friend Jack refused my request (请求). Instead, he showed me how to solve the homework’s problems and let me find the answers by myself. It made me unhappy, so I ignored (忽略) him for a long time. But I failed my final exam. I was very sad and only Jack came to comfort (安慰) me. Later on, we studied and discussed questions together, so we could make progress together. True friends do what is best for you. Starting high school can be difficult. Everyone is nervous and nobody knows where to go for classes. Thinking about making new friends might make you feel nervous, too. But don't worry, because you are not alone. You are going to school with a group of students of your age, and we have several suggestions for you to follow.
Forget your fear and just talk to some
Don't be afraid to get close to strangers. Introduce yourself and start a conversation about something you have in common. Sit in the middle of the classroom with many new friends around you as possible.
Join clubs
Take part in after-school activities that interest you. Try to make friends in clubs. If you join anything, you will be just going to classes and then going home. Being in a club makes you more social.
Stay clean
No one likes a bad smell that could knock somebody over. Shower every day, brush your teeth and wash your hair. You should make yourself look clean and tidy, whatever you wear.
Be respectful of people's differences
Everyone has his or her own opinion (观点) of the world. And everyone believes different things. It's a good thing to have different friends with different opinions because you can each share your own.
