Boots is a company in the United Kingdom. It started a new program. It rewards(奖励)customers who bring in their old products to the company. Boots recycles the old products’ packaging. Recycling is a way to reduce the amount of dust. It processes(处理)old and discarded items. These items are then made into new products. The program was successful.
But should governments give rewards for recycling, too? We did a survey with some kids. Some people say no, others say yes.
Yes
Conor Maples, 11: People should be rewarded for recycling. San Francisco rewards recycling. The city has one of the highest recycling rates in the country. Meanwhile, Chicago doesn’t reward recycling. Its recycling rate is very low. Rewards help people recycle. Many cities would be cleaner and have less waste.
Yes
Elizabeth Card, 10: Rewards help people recycle. One example is a deposit-return scheme(存款返还方案). Customers can pay a small deposit fee on an item. They later return the item when it is empty. They then get their deposit back. And then the item gets recycled. Countries with deposit-return schemes have a higher rate of recycling.
No
Ruhi Patel, 9: People who recycle already have their reward: A cleaner environment for future generations. Rewards only encourage people to buy more things. They will not be reducing the amount of waste.
No
Andrew Horan, 9: People should not be rewarded for recycling. They should recycle anyway because the world has a lot of waste. Recycling is a part of being a good citizen of Planet Earth. It is the right thing to do. Recycling should be a part of everyday life now.

When throwing away trash, do you know which bin it should go in? Some of you might not be able to answer this question. But it's very important to know how to deal with your waste. Not knowing how to deal with waste is harder to save energy and protect the environment.
If you don’t deal with your garbage, all of it will go to a landfill(垃圾场) and be buried together. These landfills can take up large areas of ground. The electronic waste you throw away can pollute the soil and groundwater. Other pieces of garbage can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.
Many cities in China have taken actions in recent years. For example, Shanghai announced in July that it would divide the garbage into four groups: recyclable, hazardous(有害的), wet and dry.
Paper, metal, glass and other things that can be reused are called recyclable waste.
Hazardous waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs(荧光灯泡). These things are not recyclable.
“Wet” waste is also known as household waste. “They are things you don't want but that pigs can eat,” Guangzhou Daily explained.
Some waste such as plastic bags, beer bottles and other man-made things will go in the "dry waste” bin.
Many other Chinese cities plan to use this way to deal with their garbage. Let's encourage each other to deal with our waste well by sorting it to protect the environment.

The Chinese Yellow Sea Wetlands are home for many different kinds of birds and animals. The world’s largest Milu Deer Nature Reserve (自然保护区) is in them. More than 700 milu deer live freely there. There are not many red-crowned cranes in the world. But every winter you can see some in the Red-crowned Cranes Nature in the wetlands.
The temperature in the wetlands is usually neither too high nor too low. There is a lot of rain and sunshine, too. They are really good places for wildlife (野生生物). Offering food and home for some special kinds of animals and birds is not the only reason why we need to protect wetlands. Wetlands are important because they also prevent flood (防洪) . But some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and buildings. This means there will be less and less space for wildlife.
Luckily, more and more people are beginning to realize the importance of wetlands and wildlife. Every year, on February 2nd, many activities are held to tell people more about wetlands. They are homes for wildlife as well as ourselves.

In 1620 about half of the USA was covered(盖) by forests. Today the forests have almost gone. A lot of good land has gone with them, leaving only sand. China doesn’t want to copy the USA’s example. We are planting more and more trees. We have built the “Great Green Wall” of trees across northern part of our country. The Great Green Wall is 7,000 kilometers long, and between 400 and 1,700 kilometers wide. It will stop the sand from blowing the earth away. It will stop the sand from moving towards the rich farmland(农田) in the south.
More “Great Green Walls” are needed. Trees must be grown all over the world. Great Green Walls will make the world better.
