People don’t need to pay for parking in malls, and the weather inside is always fine. The newest malls have beautiful rest area with waterfalls and large green trees.

The largest mall in the United States is the Mall of America in Minnesota. It covers 4.2 million square feet. It has 350 stores, eight night clubs, and a seven-acre park! There are parking spaces for 12,750 cars. About 750,000 people shop every week.

The first indoor mall in the United States was built in 1965 in Edina, Minnesota. People loved doing all their shopping in one place. More malls were built all over the country. There are four seasons in Beijing, the capital of China—short windy spring, long hot summer, pleasant cool autumn and long chilly winter. The hottest month is July and the coldest is January. September and October with the pleasant and cool weather are thought to be the best time to visit this city.

Spring

To visit this city in spring (from early April to the end of May), you need to bring lightweight clothing: long-sleeved shirts or T-shirts, plus one or two jackets and sweaters. It is warm, windy and dry but the temperature changes sharply between the day and the night. Dress warmly when going out at night. Also guard (保护) yourselves against sandstorms with sunglasses.

Summer

Summer (from early June to mid-September) is very hot with much rain. This calls for thin clothes as the temperature in July and August ranges between 30℃ and 40℃. Short and heavy rainstorms may come suddenly in the afternoon on sunny days.

Autumn

The short but beautiful autumn (from mid-September to the end of October) is travellers’ favourite. Autumn in this city enjoys mild temperature and a lot of sunshine. Long-sleeved shirts and thin-coats are necessary for autumn. From late October the temperature comes down sharply, so warm clothing is a must.

Winter

This city has a cold, dry and long winter from early November to the next March. The chilly days never let up (缓和) despite (尽管) sunny days. The average temperature in December, January and February is below 0℃. Be sure to wear woollen sweaters and thick coats in winter.

What would you say about Shenzhen? Young, modern, exciting...these all seem to right words.

Forty years ago, Shenzhen was just a small fishing village. On Aug 26, 1980, it became China’s first Special Economic Zone(SEZ,经济特区). Everything has changed since then.

People built tall buildings. On Sept 4, 1984, Shenzhen finished building the International Trade Center. It was China’s tallest building at that time. The world was surprised at how fast people built it. It took only three days to build one new floor. This speed later became known as “Shenzhen speed” and showed the city’s high efficiency(效率).

The city also got the nickname of China’s “Silicon Valley”. In the 1990s, Shenzhen decided to make technology one of its main industries. Many companies that make electronic products, such as TVs, computers and mobile phones, have come to Shenzhen. The city is home to many large tech companies, including Huawei and Tencent.

Because of its fast development, people from all over China came to Shenzhen to make their dreams come true. According to economist(经济学家) Zhang Weiying, of about 20 million people in Shenzhen, 65 percent of them were born or grew up elsewhere, but no one feels like an outsider. As the famous saying goes, “you become a Shenzhener once you come to Shenzhen”.
