Doctors diagnose(诊断)patients online. Robots help to send food to patients. Drones(无人机)monitor people in crowds. We are using new ways to fight the novel coronavirus(新冠病毒). They are safe. They can help people keep in touch with each other. Let’s meet these high-tech(高科技)helpers!

Telemedicine(电子医疗)system

With remote(远程的)video system, doctors can diagnose patients without seeing them in person. Also, doctors from different hospitals can have a meeting by using the system at the same time. This saves a lot of time. Both Huoshenshan and Leishenshan hospitals have this system.

Drones warn people in groups

In some faraway places, police use drones to monitor people in groups. When the drone finds big groups of people, police will warn them through the loud speaker on the drone. In some places, people also use drones to disinfect(消毒)their communities.

3D “hospital”

A company in Shanghai printed 15 rooms by using 3D technology. They sent the rooms to Hubei for patients to live in. Each room is about the size of your bedroom. A 3D printer takes 24 hours to build the rooms.

AI(人工智能)system checks for fever

At the Mudanyuan subway station in Beijing, an AI system can check people in crowds to see whether they have fevers. When people pass by, the system scans(扫描)people’s faces. The system can check about 300 people in one minute.

Smart robots

Time to eat! In some hospitals, smart robots help to give out food to patients. The robots can also help to hand out medicine and show the way to people.

ChatGPT is back in the headlines(新闻头条)! OpenAI, the company behind the popular chatbot, has now introduced a powerful new language model: GPT-4.

On March 14, GPT-4 showed the world how smarter it is than the previous GPT-3.5. One of its best new features(特点)is that it can understand pictures. For example, if you show a picture of a phone using the wrong charger(充电器), GPT-4 can tell why the picture looks strange or funny.

But GPT-4’s developments don’t stop there. The new language model can code(用代码编写)classic games like Tetris(俄罗斯方块)in few minutes, and produce the code and layout(布局)for a website based on a hand-made drawing. It can also change the tone(语气)and style based on what you ask it to do. GPT-4 is much better than the older GPT at passing tests, which may worry teachers. According to CNN, GPT-4 did really well on a law school test, with a score in the top 10 percent of test takers. But GPT-3.5 only got a score in the bottom 10 percent.

GPT-4 will also power other apps and services. For example, the language learning app Duolingo plans to use GPT-4 in their upcoming(即将到来的)Duolingo Max function(功能). Users can learn language by talking with AI. Another app, Be My Eyes, will have a digital assistant(数字助手)to help blind people better understand the world around them. The government of Iceland also plans to use GPT-4 to protect the Icelandic language.

There are still problems with the new language model, however. GPT-4 still struggles to get completely correct answers, which is really a big problem. GPT-4 also sometimes “hallucinates(产生幻觉)”, meaning that it will insist that wrong information is true.

【小题1】What can we infer from Paragraph 2?
A.GPT-3.5 cannot understand pictures.
B.GPT-4 can tell funny stories.
C.GPT-4 can tell why the picture looks strange or funny.
D.GPT-4 can create funny pictures.
【小题2】According to the passage, which of the following is NOT TRUE?
A.GPT-4 can code(用代码编写)classic games like Tetris in a few minutes.
B.GPT-4 can be used to power other apps.
C.The government of Iceland plans to use GPT-4 to protect the Icelandic language.
D.The new language model, GPT-4 is totally perfect without any problems.
【小题3】The underlined word “struggle” in the last paragraph probably means “________”.
A.createB.try hardC.helpD.cause
【小题4】Which of the following shows the right structure of the passage?
A.B.
C.D.

Smartphones are getting boring. The new models either have higher speed or have nicer cameras, but they are not quite different from the ones already in our pockets. This is why scientists are hoping for something new that will change our lives as greatly as smartphones do. The next invention might be smart glasses.

Instead of picking up your smartphone and looking at the screen, all the information you need appears just in front of you, in your glasses. Satellite navigation (卫星导航) directions could appear right on the road. Your smart glasses could guide you to the right shelf in the supermarket!

Smart glasses could also be used in industry. They could show engineers with glasses the instructions about fixing things more quickly. A doctor with glasses could do a difficult operation, guided by someone on the other side of the world. Most technologies are already on the way. For example, one technology called AR, can make digital 3D objects appear as if they are part of the real world. This technology has been widely used in our daily life.

Why can’t we all wear smart glasses yet? So far, no one has invented a good way to send images (映像) of our world onto glasses. However, with the fast development of technology, smart glasses could arrive much sooner than we think.

【小题2】What are Paragraphs 2 and 3 mainly about?
A.When smart glasses might be made.B.Why smart glasses should be changed.
