As my teacher called the students’ names, I was sitting there. The students went to receive their report cards happily, I watched their faces with envy and remembered my poor result last year. Since then, I had worked hard, but I wasn’t sure if I had made any progress.
I was so worried that I didn’t hear my teacher call my name, and my deskmate pushed me heavily. I tried my best to keep my cool and walked toward the teacher’s desk. The desk was only two meters away, but it seemed to be a long way for me to go.
Time seemed to stop. My heart was beating fast and my hands were shaking badly when I received my report card. My teacher was saying something, but I was so nervous that I couldn’t hear her.
Soon, thunderous applause(雷鸣般的掌声)brought me out of the darkness, and I heard my teacher say, “Wonderful job!”
When I opened my report card, I discovered an “A” on it. I couldn’t believe my eyes until I gave it a second look. Then all my fears disappeared. I felt like I was flying in the air. I heard birds singing. Perhaps they were also congratulating me on my success. I was so glad that my hard work paid off.

Although there are a lot of differences in cultures, heroes around the world generally share a number of characteristics (特点) which give us courage and make us want to learn from them.
A hero does something worth talking about. A hero has a special story to tell and people think highly of it. But a hero is not just the person with great fame (声誉) .
A hero has powers (力量) larger than himself. Some people want to live like a hero, and they have to experience life with new and further meaning. A sure test for would-be heroes is what or whom they serve. What do they want to live and die for? If the answer suggests they serve only their own fame, they may be famous persons but not heroes.
A hero has a vision from the mountaintop. He has the power to move people. He creates new possibilities. Without Gandhi, India might still be part of Britain. Without Martin Luther King, Jr., Americans might take different buses, eat in different restaurants, go for walks in different parks, and shop in different stores because of the different colors of their skin.
There might be changes in society without a hero, but the speed of change would be rather slow. Thanks to heroes in history, they make the society develop so rapidly.

I go wherever disasters strike: Indonesia after the tsunami, Pakistan after the earthquake. I was just in Kenya. After their presidential election, at least a thousand people were killed and hundreds of thousands were forced out. We set up mobile clinics in an area with 19,000 refugees (难民). Measles broke out, one of the biggest killers of kids in refugee camps, and it spread like wildfire. Water and medical equipment were also problems.
When my wife passed away, I thought my life was done. But really, it was just getting started. At the end of her life, my wife fell into a coma (昏迷). I held her head in my hands and told her of all the places we would visit, the exciting adventures we would have. I think about this moment many times during my “adventures”. I did not know then how prophetic (先知的) those words would be. She is with me still.

It is necessary to share your feelings with others. Sharing your feelings helps you to get closer to people you care about and who care about you, like your parents or teachers.
Sometimes it can be really hard not to tell anyone that you’re feeling sad, worried, or upset. Don’t keep feelings locked inside. If that, it can even make you feel sick!
But if you talk with someone who cares for you, like your mom or dad, you will not be all alone with your problems or worries. It doesn’t mean your problems and worries go off, but at least someone else knows what your trouble is and can help you find ways to do with it.
If the person doesn’t understand what you mean right away, try explaining it in a different way or give an example that has something to do with you. Of course, there are many ways for you to speak up your feelings. If you think you’ll have trouble saying what’s on your mind, write it down on a piece of paper.
Some of us, just like some adults, are more private (隐私的) than others.
That means some people will feel shy about sharing their feelings. A kid doesn’t have to share every feeling he or she has, but it is important to share feelings when a kid needs help.
