If you travel by bus or subway, you may look up to find someone sleeping in the seat across from you. Maybe this even happens to you! You might think you need more coffee, but it won’t help much. The natural vibration (振动) of buses and subways makes us fall sleepy, according to a new study.

Why? It’s all about the information going to your brain. On a bus, you keep receiving the repeating information. For example, the air conditioner and engine keep making white noise. At the same time, you’re sitting still on the seat. Also, things around you don’t change. Your brain almost has no new information to process. Slowly, your brain doesn’t care about the information any longer and starts to rest. The fact that you fall asleep quickly when closing your eyes on a bus is because your brain gets used to all the repeating information.

When you’re tired, it doesn’t take you much time to start nodding off. And we’ve found that the vibrations made by car seats as you drive can make your brain and body relaxed and calm,” said Stephen Robinson, a researcher from Australia.

Robinson’s team monitored (监测) 15 volunteers’ hearts rate variability (HRV,心率变异度) which shows how sleepy one person is, while they sat in a driving simulator (模拟器). In two 60-minute tests, volunteers were tested once with vibrations and once without.

During the test with vibrations, volunteers’ HRV was much lower. Within 15 minutes, they felt a bit sleepy, and the feeling was increasing up until the end of the test.

The line of research can help in the development of the car industry, and then help to reduce accidents. “We hope that future car seat design can fight sleeping caused by vibration,” Robinson said.

☆ Pre-made dishes (预制菜)

Pre-made dishes are half-finished or finished dishes. They are already cooked or prepared. However, they may cause health problems. For example, some have too many additives (添加剂). So doctors advise people not to eat too many pre-made dishes.

☆ Nutritional literacy (营养素养)

It shows how well a person can learn and understand nutrition information and skills which are important for making good nutrition decisions.

☆ Dietary regimen (食养)

A plan or set of rules that show what and how much a person should eat to keep in good health.

☆ Aspartame (阿巴斯甜)

It’s a sweetener widely used in food to take the place of sugar because it is low in calories (卡路里) and much cheaper than sugar.

And the last one is called an all-encompassing approach to food (大食物观). It means people need to have all kinds of food.

After a long flight of about 380,000 kilometers and 26 days, on January 3rd Chang' e No.4 landed on the back of the moon, making it the first try in human history. How do people observe(观察)the space in the kilometers and long history? Thanks to the astronomer, Galileo, who built a strong telescope(望远镜)enough about 400 years ago, we can understand study the sky well.

See with our eyes

On a dark and clear night, we can see stars shine brightly(明亮地). In fact, the Sun is also a star. The reason why it seems bigger than other stars is that it is the closest to the Earth. The brightest planet we can see at night is the Moon, but what you can see is just a bright ball. Unless you have a good eyesight, you can find some dark parts on the Moon.

See with a simple telescope

If you watch the sky with a simple telescope, like the one Galileo used, you can find that the Moon is full of mountains and holes. The bright parts are the mountains, while the dark parts are the holes, or craters. However, we can never see the back side of it, because the Moon always keeps its front side to the Earth. This time, Chang' e No.4 is going to find out the unknown secrets on its back side.

See with the Hubble Telescope

Built by the United States space agency(NASA), Hubble is one of the largest and strongest telescopes used as a tool to study the universe(宇宙).With its help, watching the Moon or the Sun is just a piece of cake. We can even use it to do something more difficult, for example, we can not only see the planets outside our solar system(太阳系)clearly, but also find bigger stars than the Sun many light years away!

【小题1】How many ways are talked about in the passage to study the sky?

【小题2】Why does the writer use the example of Chang'e   No.4 in Para 1?

B.To catch our interest to read the passage.
C.To tell us that China is becoming stronger.
D.To echo(呼应)the ending of the passage.
【小题3】What can we see with our eyes?
A.The front side of the Moon.B.The back side of the Moon.
C.The craters on the Moon.D.Chang'e No.4.
【小题4】What CANNOT we do with the help of the Hubble Telescope?
A.Watch the Sun clearlyB.Find stars outside the universe.
C.See planets outside the solar system.D.Observe stars inside the solar system.

According to a report, the middle school students mostly feel sleepy during the first class in the morning and in the afternoon. Scientific studies tell us primary students should have at least 10 sleep hours and middle school students should sleep 9 hours every day. 【小题1】 The average (平均的) sleep hours for primary and middle school students are only 7 hours and 37 minutes. Chinese students may spend the longest time doing homework in the whole world. 【小题2】

Besides the schoolwork, the after-school classes have become another pressure for the primary and middle school students. Chinese middle school students spend about 17 hours a week studying outside school. 【小题3】 But the parents still consider that they need to send their children there because the other children are taking part, and if they don’t go to such classes, they may fall behind.

【小题4】 In July 2021, “double reduction” policy (双减政策) was introduced. The fight against the heavy pressure was joined by all the parts in our country. 【小题5】 It is believed that the education chaos (混乱) will be stopped in the future. Anyhow, the healthy growth of children is the most important.
